Lets say you buy some land in Spain and build your dream home. Then a few years later the Spanish government decide they want to build a motorway there, or some houses. They can take 70% of your land for free without paying you a single euro. Or they can buy everything for a tiny fraction of what its worth. If you dont want to lose the land then you pretty much have to buy your property a second time. Even worse is, if what they build benefits you, then they'll get you to help pay for it.
The irony is that lots of Brits complain about the government here and then move out to Spain and then end up losing everything when the Spanish government does something like this.
I'm sure this wont happen to you when you find a place out there pb. You're still looking for something in that town of yours right? Near her family?
Watching all these Spain property buying programs on TV, I'm already forgetting what the real Spain is like. I hope I finally get to go out there this year =)

Thats what they want to do in villages around Stanstead I think, to build a second runway. If I heard correctly an entire village will be destroyed this way.

Hey keep your own preferences to yourself :-)

Nah my girlfriend is more than enough
It won't happen if you buy a house in a town or block of houses either, seems to only be affecting people buying big houses with lots of free land around. They'll go for a cheap option and use a cheap legal company and that's when the trouble starts.

For the ladyboys right Kawada? ;)
Not sure about Thailand but Philippines might be nice. My ex has a house there and about 7 servants. Ever wanted your own hot made Kawada? How about 4?

UK Compulsory Purchase Orders
I think theres some wrangling still going on around the compulsory purchase orders relating to some businesses and stuff relating to land 'earmarked' for the Olympic games.
Its a bit rubbish if you've lived somewhere for ages or have put lots of time money and effort into setting up a small business in an area then to be moved out because a government want the land for something else.
> The house is all mine, could the government still do that?
They certainly did. I expect they could now if they wanted, although legally people are a bit more protected now i think.
