Hey all,

I've finished my site redesign at http://www.stevesmiscellany.go.nu/ but I want to implement a php image browser for the art, photography and 3D pages. I don't know much php bar getting it to right stuff like hello world on screen, so any tutorials and help is very much appreciated. I want it to have say 5 thumbnails to a page (prefeably server created) which when clicked on bring up a larger image, and back and forward buttons on both the thumbnail page and larger image page. If anyone knows of an open source php code which does this that would also be apreciated.

Cheers,
Steve

Small addition for anybody interested in those books. You can get sample chapters from here.

http://www.sitepoint.com/books/phpant1/

Also a bit cheaper to buy them from there than amazon too (if you want to buy both that is).

Cheers, but your link is wrong, I get this error in Firefox and IE:

"Browser Bug?

Attention: There appears to be a bug in the web browser you are currently using. Here are some ways to get around the problem:

* To return to the page you were previously on: --click the BACK button on your browser's navigation bar until you reach the desired page.
* To checkout --click on the shopping cart icon at the top of the page and proceed through the checkout process using the standard server (instead of the secure server). You can phone or fax the credit card information to us."

Sometimes online tutorials just aren't enough.

These books http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/026-7104559-6692425 are solid gold.

Once you've got them, got for the object orientated ones.

What you're asking for isn't that difficult to write, which is probably why you're having problems finding tutorials for it. Your best bet would be to use the PHP Manual to look up functions on Image Manipulation.

Cheers for the help, but I can only find overly complicated systems that create a whole community with people logging it and that sort of thing, or really simple ones that arn't powerful enough. Do middling ones exist?

Wow. A Css coder. It's a bit overpowering designwise but certainly unique and imaginative. Top stuff.

Might help. I've just done a gallery/browser myself recently, but can't give the code out.

Brilliant! As usual the careful and intuitive production that Freeola puts into everything it sets out to do, I am delighted.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
