As it's been a bit quiet around here the last couple of days...

Name a useful and free application or utility that you use.

Rules:
Must be free and with "no nags" - i.e. No spyware, ads, etc.
No duplicates
We all know and like AVG, MS Antispyware, Ad-Aware & Spybot.
EDIT: Please don't just link to a general download website - be specific, try to name an actual application that you use, find useful and would like to recommend.

Here's one of mine to start:

DeskPins
DeskPins allows you to keep a window "on top".
i.e. You're pasting and copying something into notepad and you want to keep a small notepad window visible while you edit another document; or you're watching the BBC news and don't want to lose the video while you get on with some 'work'.

I know this is not really an app.

But get a load of firefox extensions for your browser, seriously, I have found quite a few decent extensions which I now use all the time.

Examples from my setup: -

CustomizeGoogle
ColorZilla
TabBrowser Preferences
Gmail Notifier - Pretty self explanatory
Download Manager Tweak - Puts your downloads into another tab instead of a separate window

Tab X - Puts a close button on each tab (instead of at the right)
Stop-or-Reload button - Deletes your stop button and changes your "refresh" button to "stop" when a site is loading, then changes back to "refresh" when the site it fully loaded. Saves space.
Google Suggest - Adds google suggest technology to your search bar in the top right

The majority of my sites are hosted with Freeola, they have their own online domain management system, but this has been unavailable for quite a while: http://ukchatforums.reserve.co.uk/display_messages.php?threadid=128293&forumid=414

They also send out emails but often 3 months in advance which isn't ideal.

I'm looking for a stand alone application. This has been discussed here before, the only decent free one I can find doesn't cater for co.uk TLD's so isn't right for me.

TinySpell
"Occasionally you need to check the spelling of words in an application that does not include a spelling checker and you don't want to launch your word processor just for that. This is when tinySpell becomes handy. It is a small utility that allows you to easily and quickly check the spelling of words in any Windows application. tinySpell monitors your typing on the fly and alerts you whenever it detects a misspelled word. It also checks the spelling of every word you copy to the clipboard."

Can anyone recommend a good Domain Name 'manager' that shows expiration dates etc. ???

Notepad++ - http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm

Another favourite...
"Notepad++ is a free source code editor which supports several programming languages running under the MS Windows environment."

One I just discovered: Inkscape, a drawing program that uses scalable vector graphics. I have no artistic ability whatsoever but I found it very easy to use and it did everything I needed. I used it on Linux but it's available for Windows as well. http://www.inkscape.org/

Incidentally, I had to use this because the Gimp can't draw circles. $5000 bounty for it on gnome.org, I think. I hate the UI on the Gimp anyway, so I was quite glad not to have to struggle with it.

SyncBack - http://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads.html
Backup, Restore or Synchronise your data. I use the freeware version - loads of options.

I use it everyday - If you've ever had a hard drive fail on you then you will know what it's like to loose your work!

Burn4Free. It's an all in one burning program which I find is a lot easier, quicker and better to use than many other all in one burners like Nero, Easy Media Creator and Pinnacle, which is suprising, since it's freeware. http://burn4free.com/

Sort of similar, but I used to have a link to a page with more links to free web services that return things like weather, email address validation, credit card validation, stuff like that, for use in websites - but lost it :(

Looking for one that returns if a domain is available...anyone?

10/10
Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
I am delighted.
Brilliant! As usual the careful and intuitive production that Freeola puts into everything it sets out to do. I am delighted.
