I was wondering if anyone could help me, my CD ROM and DVD ROM drives are not working, when I put a disk in them nothing seems to happen. When i go to My Computer the drives dont seem to be there, its as if there not installed. But when i go to Add New Hardware, it shows that they're not installed, then it gives me a list of hardware that hasnt been installed yet and its not there! Can someone help me? Thanks.
Take the side of the case off and make sure there is a power connector going into the drive. As you open the case it will be the nearest sockets on the drive to where you are positioned, 4 pinned socket. If not there will be spare ones from the power unit you can plug in. Failing that make sure there is an IDE cable (4-5cm long cable) plugged in next to it, you can follow this from the motherboard to plug in.
