Yeah at the end it sort of went all 'action movie cliche' apart from the last 10 minutes it was damn fine and, as you say, one of the best in a long while.

I take this back having just seen the second one. The man's slipped again it's like Darkman with more SFX. I stopped caring after the first hour.
Bloody awful.

That's Raimi on form, very little touches such brilliance.
Now, let's talk about me having some of that cake ...

clearly.
Maybe it's the sociopath in me, but when I watched Vincent break one guys neck, snap another guys leg like a twig, beat another half to death with the butt of his gun, then unload a full magazine into the remaining bouncers and SWAT. Finally stopping to change clip and double tap the club owner ... I felt nothing but envy.
I'd choose gritty disturbing realism any day, over the fresh prince cheesing the place up with corny one liners and 'one gun in each hand while diving in slow motion' early 1990s Woo-esque rubbish.
For shame, English. For shame.
:D
I enjoyed it greatly. I personally don't think it started too slowly either. There was some cheese as Snuggly mentioned, but I like a little cheese.

Both Spider-Man's were a LOT better.
