Firstly this is a FANTASTIC game to play online. It recreates the single player game quality, then trebles it. Unlike quake or unreal you have a chance (I always seemed to get shot with massive rockets by big shooty daddy etc) and secondly the levels aren't a series of interlinking corridors which calls of linear game play, they are just like in the game, very varied and they are constructed so you can snipe, be crafty etc.

Anyway I have been playing this game for a while and have noticed a few things that vastly improve your chances and I have decided to share my wisdom.

1. If you stay there, you will die there: basically in all the maps I have played on there are no safe places. Most good sniping positions have at least two entrances so the enemy can come either way. This is a favorite of mine sneaking up on a sniper and pistol whipping them. So the key point is to keep moving at all times, this means no-one will find you in the same location twice and a moving target is harder to hit.

2. Asses the situation: OK some times people will rush you and you just have to shoot and hope. But other times you do have time to think. ALWAYS play the odd i.e. is my Sten gun going to hit that tiny bit exposed body at long range? Will my Springfield sniper rifle be any good in close quarters?
See what I mean. Although you might hit the person with your Sten gun it will take time and it means that you alert everyone else to your presence.

3. Flank, Flank and Flank again. Head on attacks mean that the enemy knows where if you are hitting from the side or the rear means you are sneaky and it leaves a bitter taste in your opponents mouth. A trick I’ve worked out is if you are faced with a head attack is (if you can) run past it and turn as you run meaning that you can attack from behind and they have to turn and face you which hopefully 32 MP40 rounds are lodged in their head.

4. Stalking: If you see an enemy enter a building follow them, chances are they don't know that which means one easy kill.

5. Don't be afraid to interrupt. This mean if theirs a ten man gun battle raging below you shoot them from your position nine times out of ten you won't be spotted and that a couple of easy kills. Also if you see the end of a fight don’t be afraid to shoot the winner as they often low of health.

I hope these pearls of wisdom (ahem) will be helpful and I might see you on online some time.

Take care

This wouldn't have even helped me at the start because I figured all this stuff out on my first go.

This would have helped me when I just started, especially about flanking the enemy. When I started playing I always just rushed in usually getting myself killed.

BTW I do have the UO expansion, but I prefare the maps without tanks I find the vehicle maps very slow, except for Casino which I think is amasing when I first went on that map (first MP go on UO) the tanks rollin scared the cr*p outta me it was just like that scene near the end of Saving Private Ryan. Great stuff, this is why I think C.O.D is the ultimate it just oozes atmosphere even on multiplayer.

Ginger Ninja and Dedhed must have awards for stating the ABSOLUTE OBVIOUS.

There is little you can tell a beginner to make them better. Even less you can tell an experienced player.

It's all down to common sense and raw ability.

I didn't care much for Call of Duty online, but Call of Duty United Offensive has a great multiplayer component. Some great maps and a bit more tactical depth, but I love it because I can have immense fun going house to house hunting down enemy tanks.

I take it this is aimed at Call of Duty and not the Expansion pack, from looking over it I saw no information about the vehicles.

If you play the Expansion Pack the game becomes more tactical. The addition of smoke grenades allows you to wipe out whole buildings by creating a smoke screen between 2 buildings and allowing you to charge the rooms with about 10 people from your team with you.

Great stuff.

One I forgot: Always grab an opposite to you weapon i.e. if you spawn with a Springfield grab a MP44 that is laying about so if the enemy do charge you, then you can use that MP44 to put some holes in him. This also works the other way around if you spawn with a close combat weapon then pick up a sniper rifle and you can take those long shot easily.

P.s. Don’t EVER use mounted weapons. You just give away your position and you can be attacked from behind with ease. A hint I have found, is if can only see the barrel of an mounted machine gun (when it is not firing) see what way it is pointing if it is pointing up then it is not been used but if it vertical then someone holding it. So you being a wise guy launch a couple of grenades in there and grab an easy kill.

I love this game online, Ive had so many moments of pure gaming gold that its hard to describe. Anyway here are a few of my tips for this game.

1. When using an automatic weapon fire in sort bursts, especially at a distance. This increases your chances of get a hit considerably. Also going prone or crouching aids accuraccy immensly.

2. On the other hand if combat gets all upclose and personal dont be afraid to let all hell break lose, jump, straft empty your magazine in the direction of your opponant. Sometimes aggressive tactics work, i.e charging headlong into the enemy can freak him out but often this will result in death.

3 As previously mentioned always try to flank the enemy, in team-deathmatch etc. lines will always be drawn between the two sides these constantly shift and change. Instead of rushing head long into the enemy evertime you spawn, stop, think take the long way round to his rear of side if your lucky the lines will not have shifted and you will get to wreak havoc amongst the enemy.

Anyone who plays this game should post thier tips here, veteran or beginner tips could be left here as well as general ingame stories.
