They're there for life so it's up to you. I had my first one 11 years ago and am still glad I did it.

I thought about getting the elvish enscription from the One Ring tattooed around my arm.

Then i came to my senses.

I didn't get them to look cool or manly or anything, I got them because I wanted to. The only one that ever gets seen in public is the one on my arm.
