Does any one use this OS, and will it work say office 2007? and will it work with my mobile dongle? or for that matter will it recognise most of the hardware in my laptop?

Been looking at getting a new laptop and these mini laptops come with Ubuntnu or Windows XP I know that Ubuntnu is free thats not reflected in the price of a new laptop I have to add :-)

Any thoughts or pointers

It seems the T-Mobile dongle will work, see here and the 02 dongle should work.

Boot times for Ubuntu 9.04 aren't as fast as Windows 7 but they're not bad (definitely not as bad a Vista).

Hi Eccles cheers for the prompt reply. My dongles are an O2 one and a T Mobile one they are both the same type a Huwi or some thing like that.

So you would recommend Ubutnu, it has some good right ups and if as you say it comes with SW that is compatible with Office then a dont really need to install Office.

Does it boot quickly? I have Windows 7 RC it boots super fast on my laptop.

I use Ubuntu at home, don't have Windows any more. It comes with OpenOffice, which is equivalent to Office and can save files in Office format (and open them). If you really want to use Microsoft Office instead then you can install it using a program called Wine (lets you use Windows programs in Linux - not an emulator though).

As for your dongle, not sure. Depends on the model, do you have this information? I suspect it will work as someone out there will have produced a driver to make it function in Linux.
