Things to look out for.
Processor: Usually expressed in terms of Gigahertz these days, at the moment around 3 gig is about top of the range.
RAM: This is the memory your computer uses to execute tasks, the more RAM you have the more tasks your computer can manage at a time. Therefore a high amount of RAM is preferable, i wouldnt go for anything less than 256mb. Go for 512mb and over if you can afford to.
Graphics card: The power of a graphics card is expressed in megabytes, i would avoid purchasing anything less than 128mb, and also look out for cards that are direct 9x compatible.
Hard Disk Drive space: This is where you store everything, as you probably know, these things can fill up pretty quick, im still on a 20gb HDD, but only because my HDD is a dinosaur. I would say 120gb is the current optimum.
Hope that helps.
