I need some help from someone who knows a lot about computers. My computer has suddenly started acting odly. As soon as I turn my machine on when it is loaded I go to start > settings > network connections to connect to the internet, but each time I did so, the start menu froze, as did the task bar along the bottom of the screen - however I could still use desktop icons and stuff.

I kept re-setting and evetually the problem went away. However now every time I try and use Microsoft Paint the same thing happens now. I have just defragemnted and it is still being really weird. My hard drive isn't full to bursting (79% free space) - I dont have any crap like Kazaa still on my comp and I dont have any dodgy pirate software. I havent installed anything recently and this problem seems to have come out of nowhere!

Help!

I can't seem to find "connect to" on my start menu. I am using my Dad's computer at the moment though and this is working fine.

Cookie, if I click on the internet explorer icon the page will be white for like 5 minutes before the connection box appears - its quicker my way.

Right Kyz, this has happened to me many a time.

Bloody annoying.

Here's what you do.
Go to Start > Connect To > Show All Conns
and delete your connections.

Then, re-create them.
This solved the problem for me, should do for you too.

Bloomin' heck, all that just to get online?

Why not just double click on Internet Explorer, or Outlook Express, or AIM, or MSN or any of the other many, MANY programmes that you use that are online?

It'll tell you if it is corrupted, but it won't fix it without the disks.

Hmm I hope thats the cause of it.

Will the SFC tell me if the file is corrupted without the use of the disk?

Yes that sounds like overheating to me.

Over the years I've become very jaded after many bad experiences with customer services, you have bucked the trend. Polite and efficient from the Freeola team, well done to all involved.
