On yellow, you couldn't evolve Pikachu... he refused to be rubbed with a thunderstone.
And unless you have time travel or completed the game on a flight from Australia to the UK (12 hours...and that is pushing it) you CANNOT beat it in 2 minutes without cheats or loading up someones game in the cartridge when they've just beat the game.

Always remember starting with Bulbasaur as it was easy mode for the first two gyms. Grass>Water+Rock

Hehe, I used to start with Squirtle usually. I only played pokemon blue, which I think is probably a good thing.
Silver was too complicated for me... I couldn't figure out how to play it without a GBA any more :(
