I have decided to start buying Horror movies on DVD to build up a collection these are the movies i have decided i am going to buy.

The Exorcist
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Scream (possibly 2 and 3 but they were no were near as good as the first)
The Omen (Have never seen so what are your views on it?)
Alien (Have never seen any of the mivies which ones are good?)

This is all i have come up with if i am missing any essential horror movies could you tell me?

Ive always loved the Creepshow films ever since I was about 8 - My favourite has to be 'The Hitchhiker' - Shame they only made two of them though!

Hehe I could list Horror films all day, last time I counted my collection of Horror DVD's was around 150.

If I was you i'd scrach the Scream trilogy from the list because to be quite honest, the sequels are a load of tosh and the first film is quite good, though very overrated.

I don't really go for modern Horror though. Can't stand all the 'ironic' teen slasher sh-t. You need to really go back to the 70's and 80's when America was turning out original, balls out Horror films. None of these 90210 chick flicks.

Myself i'd recommend

The Dead trilody (Night, Dawn, Day)
Evil Dead Trilogy (if you don't know what they are then I suggest you buy them right now)
Halloween 1 + 2 (don't bother with any of the other sequels though)
Friday the 13th 1, 2, 6 (6 is pure balls out, popcorn munching, carnage candy)
Nightmare on Elm Street (the sequels smell worse than a 2 week old used nappy)
Dead Next Door (low bunch Zombie splatter fest)
Phantasm 1-3 (classic stuff)
I spit on your grave (you'll need a strong stomach for this one, don't bother with the cut print though)
Re-Animator (great mad scientist, zombie splatter fest, one of my favourites)
The Return of the living Dead (no Horror collection should be without this, BRAAAAAAAAAAINS)
The Thing (classic Carpenter monster movie)
Maniac (disturbing serial killer flick, great Tom Savini gore, import only though as the UK print is cut to ribbons)
Sleepaway Camp (low budget early 80's slasher film, complete no brainer but damn good fun)
The Prowler (another great slasher film)

If you really love your Horror (like me) then you may wanna check out some European and Asian stuff. You'll need a strong stomach though and I don't recommend watching some of these films on a full stomach. Extreme is not really a strong enough way to describe some of the following films. Oh and you'll need to import the majority as they either aren't available in the UK or they've been cut to pieces by the BBFC.

Euro films:
Zombie (superb Italian Dawn of the Dead inspired gorefest)
The Beyond (another classic Italian Zombie film, a real gut muncher of a film)
Tenebrae ( Superb Dario Argento film, intelligent slasher style film)
Cannibal Ferox (supposedly one of the most violent films ever made, damn entertaining though)
Cannibal Holocaust (Blair Witch style Cannibal film)
Demons (complete no brainer of a Horror film, more cheesy than a cheese factory and enough guts thrown round to keep it intresting)
Porno Holocaust (Zombie that doubles up as a hardcore porn film, my favourite genres :D)
The Grim Reaper (Great monster film, including the classic unborn feotus eating scene which looks even worse than it sounds)
House on the edge of the park (Psycho thriller type film, contains some extremly disturbing rape scenes but still manages to be a very good film)
The Living Dead at the Mancheser Morgue: Great spanish zombie film
Island of Death : One of the sickest films i've ever seen, beasitility, golden showers and crucifixion are just a few of the delights on show here.

Now for the best Asian Horror films

Versus : John Woo style Zombie film. Samurais, Yakuza, slow motion gun play and lot of gore FANTASTIC
Junk : Another Asian Zombie film, very Romero like in style of directing.
Guinea Pig Series : Charlie Sheen reported this series to the FBI thinking he'd found snuff films on the internet, certainly not the kinda films you wanna show the grandparents.
The Eye : Makes 'The Ring' seem like a walk in the park
Ichi the Killer: not really a Horror film but I suggest everyone picks it up anyway

And many others, I'm sure a lot of them won't intrest you though. I have a very sick taste in films.

I would recommend Event Horizon, Dawn of the Dead, 28 Days Later, The Stand and Jason X.

People claim The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to be THE SCARIEST FILM EVER. I thought it was one of the ******* horror films I had ever seen! VERY overated!

The original Halloween was good.
