Just a few of the DVDs that ARE just that good, ones that a lot of people should consider buying:

-Fight Club [2 disk]
-Leon [Look in bargain bins]
-28 days later [Availible 19th]
-Minority Report [Lots of extras]
-Gangs of New York [Out next month with billions of extra stuff]
-Matrix [Matrix Revisited package, whole big documentary & stuff. Good]

Well, thats my list - feel free to post your own essential DVDs and allow the whole forums to bask in cinematical glory. Uh, yeah.

I wouldn't say Godfather Trilogy is an essential DVD boxset the films are incredibly overated, Goodfellars however is probably THE best gangster movie, strong cast and gritty I'll be sure to buy that DVD as well.

Everyone needs Akira.
Everyone should have The Princess Bride.
And, actually, the ones you mentioned are exactly what I was thinking from the topic's title.

Back To The Future trilogy is the most essential DVD I have. Not too many features, despite all the hype.

I recommend:

Robocop Trilogy (1st film is still great and violent after 16 odd years. 2nd film is OK, 3rd film is just ****)

8 Mile (A excellent drama, Marshall plays his role as Rabbit (Jimmy) well and some of the rap battles are real tight + DVD extras Superman video which you can only see on the DVD + 30 mins of rap battles cut from the film) *out May 26*

The Osbournes Series 1 (Hillarious, stupid + fun, great extras must have for anyone who a sence of humour)

Terminator 2 Judgement Day ( 2 disc Ultimate DVD)
(Awesome effects, great action with the occasion comedy moment from Arnie *remember that scene where he tries to smile?* great extras, fantastic intro menus *essential for fans of action flicks*

I would but off Play anyway allow they have cheap prices doesn't mean there are good, I had to return a "Up In Smoke Tour" DVD twice back to them as it was faulty and I never got a reply back or a refund! so I basically wasted £17.99!
