Why has the cinema gone down hill and why has their been no classic films coming out. The state of the film industry this year has been poo but still it brings in billions a year. Why is it that i haven't seen a good film at the cinema since Two Towers and why is it that i went to see Equilibrium and came out feeling conned. Why has their been no classic films like usual suspects and lock stock and that we are reduced to this poor quility of films. We may as well watch the Cannes film festival. But in support of the film industry cradle 2 the grave was quite a good film but wasn't the normal quality. Has the standard of films gone down and if so why can't they do something to save it.

Pleasantville is a great little movie. Not one of my 90s highlights, but still very watchable.

The 90s was a pretty average decade, and there are many great films left out of that list... I could think of some but effort... 0036 in the morning...

I think all decades have great and bad films.

The 90s for example, how many of these will be considered classics in twenty years.

1990-Goodfellas,Dances with wolves,Nikita

1991-the Commitments,Silence of the lambs,Resevoir dogs,the Fisher king

1992-Unforgiven,Scent of a woman (quiet year)

1993-True romance,Carlito's way

1994-Shawshank redemption,Pulp fiction,Forrest Gump,Leon (great year)

1995-Se7en,Fargo,Trainspotting,Usual suspects

1996-Sleepers ?

1997-Jackie Brown,L.A.Confidential

1998-Lock stock & two smoking barrels,Pleasantville,Saving private ryan

1999-the Green mile,the Matrix

There's isn't really a golden age of film, just an era you prefer. 80s was a major downturn after the brilliance of the 70s IMO.

Surely it should be the 80's, early 90's? No? Am I wrong again?

Well, we've already passed the golden age of film (the '80s) so of course films don't seem as good as they used to.

Classic films aren't made in the cinema, film's gain classic status if people are still watching them in decades. It grates everytime I read someone write "Two Towers is a classic master piece", sorry "DA 2 TUOPRS IS DA BEST CLSUK FILMS". A good film released a couple of months ago is still only a good film.

Anyway: Donnie Darko, City of God, About Schmidt, Punch Drunk Love, Talk To Her.

Good enough for me. Far From Heaven wasn't bad either. Adaptation was worth a watch. As was Rules of Attraction, and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Haven't seen it yet, but Phone Booth is getting good press. Ditto 25th Hour.

But then if you think Cradle2 The Grave is the highlight of the past few months we're clearly looking for different things. So tempted to repeat you're "put down" to Kyz22...
