Tis the season for dodgy Christmas albums to be dusted off and pretty soon you'll find yourself humming one of them after being blasted with another Christmas hit from your trip round the shops.

So do you partake in playing those 'Christmas hits' or do you try to keep as far away from them as possible?

I must admit I did burn the muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack and a few other tracks to a cd for the car and the wife puts the standard Christmas album on in the house.

Yeah, I do like to hear them as long as they aren't overplayed.

As for pop music, that's a whole new topic. I wouldn't even try lumping all popular music in together like that. I understand what you mean by manufactured music, though even that has a purpose and there have been some good tunes that come from this stable.

There are so many Christmas songs out there that don't get played on the radio though, from Gloria Estafan's Love on Layaway to the folky sounding Christmas Lights. Instead we get Band Aid again and again.

I quite like most of the songs, even though they're played every year without fail over and over, but for me that's all part of Christmas. Helps me get into the Christmas mood anyway. Fairytale of New York is still my favourite Christmas song.

Terrible, terrible stuff. But then, I avoid chart pop, and Christmas music is doubly nauseating and commercialised.

Although there is the odd one that amuses me. The Screaming Santas are a good laugh, and Bob Rivers' Twisted Christmas had me in stitches. I guess that a bit of yuletide comedy is passable; especially if it's a little inappropriate.

hate it. Its the time when the whole nation suddenly falls stupid and tries to make the most awful songs to christmas no.1 Some of these songs would be an instrument of torture. Cack all the way.
