Whenever I see an advert with shots of a video game I, and many others I know, assume it to be for playstation. Since I have no interest in adverts for said console, I pay no attention.
In fact, with the exception of when I recognise the screen shots or advert generally, the advert would have to SCREAM "Nintendo" or "Sega" at me for me to take any notice.

If this is the case for as many people as I assume it to be, as a general rule, only PS/PS2 owners would ever pay attention to an advert, so maybe the reason Sega and Nintendo are behind on the advertising is because it simply isn't worth it for the proportion of targeted viewers who take notice.

Or it could just be because too small a proportion of the viewers own the specific console...

But then how do they hope to expand?

Its all just part of Sonys all powerful marketing machine! ... Sega and Nintendo never really did seem to notice the european market, which may be to their cost in the long run... Besides, since at time the PS1 made 40% of Sonys total income, I'd be more surprised if they did'nt try and flog its stuff at all possible moments....
