Paper specs. alone show this, but on top of that, XBOX supports FSAA, Texture Compression, Multiple-Textures, Bump Mapping, and a whole host of hardware functions that the PS2 has to do in software.
I have a PS2, and I think it is a good machine. It will get great games, and they will look better as time goes on, but you can't just ignore XBOX - it's getting all of the great games like MGS2, Silent Hill, SSX etc - all graphically enhanced for XBOX, with unique features that only XBOX can handle.
So, stop arguing, enjoy your PS2/DC/N64/PSOne or whatever it is you own now, and re-assess the situation when XBOX finally launches. By then, Gamecube will be out too, which by the way is also more powerful than PS2 - by a long way believe it or not.
Oh, and for the record, I work for a software development company, and have access to SDK's for PS2, XBOX and Gamecube. Believe me, XBOX IS much better graphically, and is much much more easy to program for. Gamecube is also very good, nice to program for, but not as powerful as XBOX. Next is PS2, which is a complete pig to design for, and simply lacks the horsepower. In these days of massive budgets, long development times, and tight deadlines, the last thing you want is to fight a system - for this reason alone, XBOX will win over the developers.
Thanks!
