As a Tottenham fan, it has not been a great start to the season, only 2 points from 8 games saw Spurs in a relegation position that only one team have ever recovered from. But with a new manager and a promising win against Bolton, spurs were looking to go out and prove that they were a big team with good players and the ability to play well.

After what can only be described as 90 minutes of quality football, even non footy fans were getting involved in the nail biting, leaping out the seat action and cheering as 8 goals flew in at either end.

As expected when you travel to the Emirates, the pace was intense and Arsenal was very much on form with their fantastic ability to pass a ball with speed and accuracy. Any Spurs fan will tell you knew it was not going to be a clean sheet for Tottenham during this game. Spurs held their own and showed their quality in passing and attacking as well. About 13 minutes into the first half the spectators were in awe as Jenas chested a ball down for Bentley to control and then hit on the volley from 40 yards, forcing an acrobatic save that was still not good enough to stop potentially the goal of the season from firing in and sending Spurs in the lead. Any fan of football has to applaud the sheer brilliance of the goal and the level of skill it takes to pull that shot of.

Going 0-1 up against Arsenal, and the fact it was an ex-Arsenal player who hit the ball is one of the worst things you can do, it makes them angry, and when that happens, the speed and intensity raises by 50%, Theo Walcott was displaying his skill and pace, showing why he is becoming a key asset for the England team by having a couple of close shots and playing some good passes. Arsenal really were pressing and a goal seemed certain. A potential free kick was not given to Tottenham and Arsenal managed to get a corner. The ball was delivered well and just short of Gomes, who came out trying to claim the ball, only for Silvestre to beat the flapping keeper and put the ball in the back of the net, making it 1-1. Yet another piece of bad goalkeeping has cost Tottenham a goal. With Arsenal back level their confidence was risen again and the skill level was maintained with Tottenham chasing for the remaining minutes, just wishing for their deserved break at half time. When the whistle went most players were very tired and got their chance for a breather.

A chance for Harry to show what he is made of and see if Tottenham would come out trailing or pushing for that second goal. Within a minute of the second half starting, a weak free-kick given to Arsenal lead to another good ball crossed in and Gallas beating his marker and putting the ball passed Gomes, making it 2-1 to Arsenal. Not a good start to the game but Tottenham did not let it drop, they were still passing well and looked better than their current league position would suggest. Arsenal were still the dominant side and with a brilliant ball through from Van Persie to Nasri, a 3rd goal was certain, the ball was knocked over Gomes for Adebayor to beat Hutton to and put in the net to make it 3-1. Not a good start to the second half and Harry must have been fearing the worst.

Brining Bent and Lennon on showed the fans they were not going to roll over and take it but they wanted to get back into it. Some good passing and a deflection left the ball in a nice position for Tom Huddlestone to strike, a clean hit sent the ball low and hard for Almunia to parry away or catch, but a bad touch left the ball within distance for the goal hungry Darren Bent who put the ball away with a good finish. Looks like Tottenham aren’t the only ones who need to get their Goalkeeper some more training! Back to 3-2 a slight hope of a draw was sparked in the players and fans, belief is a powerful thing and within a few minutes it was soon struck down but what can only be described as a royal screw up from Spurs defender Hutton, while attempting to play the ball back he left it very short for Adebayor to pick up and pass to Van Persie who was never going to miss from 8 yards out, a powerful hit that Gomes stood no chance for, put Spurs 4-2 down with little time left to go.

Many players would have rolled over and allowed Arsenal to punish them further, but reassuringly Spurs showed some will to win and kept pressing, when Clichy slipped and allowed Jenas to pick the ball up and run at the defence to unleash a pin point shot with his left foot that curled around Almunia to put Tottenham 4-3 down with 4 minutes left seemed nothing more than a consolation goal.

The final minutes of the game had the players give everything they had left, pushing themselves physically and mentally, a young and “naïve” Arsenal team had chances to hold the ball and allow the clock to run out, but going for a 5th goal allowed Tottenham to get the ball up and challenge the Arsenal defence once more. Modric got a strong shot away which took a deflection past Almunia but still struck the post for Lennon to tuck away to level the game up and send the fans into a frenzy of celebration at one end and disbelief at the other. With a minute to go the final whistle saw a very memorable London derby finish 4-4.

While I am a Spurs fan and that may be biased on the report above, I can take nothing away from Arsenal and how have a great ability to pass a ball around and attack, they were a joy to watch and thankfully Tottenham gave it their all and showed they can compete with the big boys, drawing with Chelsea and Arsenal. Liverpool next week has Harry on a rather hard start to things at White Hart Lane for him, but the confidence is high and the players believe they can win. Looks like Tottenham’s season has finally begun.

The game last night was important for both teams and allowed them to see no team is perfect, but it was inspiring to watch and was a great game, everyone who watched it enjoyed it and if you did miss it, I can only suggest trying to find it somewhere and watch it. Some great goals and passion made this an unforgettable game.

Will it? Getting away from the stadium and on a train is hard enough with 36,000, 60,000 will be a nightmare unless they do up the train station/have a constant stream of train cars.

Sorry to necro an old thread, one of the disadvantages of not being here for a week!

Was a quality game, both teams defended like jokers and I reckon Chelski, Manure and Liverpoo were watching Arsehals and our performance with a grin spread across their face.

The positives from the game are that we scored goals, something we have trouble with so far this season and we played like a team with confidence.

Negatives where that we defended awfully and our set pieces where shocking. Gomes is so dodgey and Hutton needs to be shot.
