Has anyone here had any good experiences from attending a gig at a local venue that you would recommend to somebody else looking for gigs?
My band Mr Happy Chainsaw are in the process of booking some dates for late 2008/early 2009 and wondered if any of you guys know of any decent local venues that we should approach for gigs etc Or if you know of any promoters in your area that are looking for bands.

Heh, how local (read: small) do you want? There's two pubs in Braintree that have live bands. One is called Mardys which is in the town centre, and the other is called Hogs which is a bit further out.
Central Station in Wrexham is a good venue for upcoming bands,saw Ash there a few years ago.Duffy & Devildriver played there last year.Funeral For A Friend & Bring Me The Horizon are there soon.

Manchester & Liverpool Academy's are good too.Both are set in the university campus grounds and have much smaller (as well as the larger) venues.I've seen bands like Killswitch Engage,Alexisonfire & Trivium at those smaller venues early in their careers.They also have unsigned bands nights,seen some good acts at those in the past.
