i am wondering what differance there really is between AMD ATHLONS and PENTIUM 4's in the real world, so all you guys with athlon xp's benchmark your computers using Sisoft sandra 2002 (i belive you can get a free download at www.downloads.com), use the CPU, MEMORY and MULTIMEDIA TESTS and post your PC spec as well, including Operating system.

Close down as much background aplications as possible.

I know turbonutter will be up for this ;)

I'll do mine now, to show you what i mean.................

My PC did terribly!!
Outdated drivers, errors on every section I think.

Also, question for yoy, how do i stop Windows from popping up that annoying "clean disk" thingy? it keeps popping up mid-game and messing up my screen :D

I can't remember off the top of my head how to disable the clean disk thingy but i am sure you can, or try add/reomoving most of the programs you don't use, for best performance always keep you hard drive under 60% full.

What did you get though then i can compare athlon with P4 im sire it will beat me on MIPS but not sure on mulitmedia and memory bandwidth.

It's not a contest you know i am just wondering. :D

Rar, this chip slays all.

..or http://tnr.mine.nu/stuff/benchmarks/sandra.jpg for those of you with lame browsers.

Remember to compare the bright green bars on the Intel chips.

CPU [ AMD XP, 1834MHz, 256KB (100% Load) CPU: 49°C ]
RAM [ 173/512MB (33.79%) ]
HDD [ C: 7.13/20GB Free E: 0.22/9.49GB Free HDD: 43°C ]
GFX [ Gainward Ti550/XP Golden Sample ]
OS [ Microsoft Windows XP (version 5.1) ]
Screen [ 1600x1200 32bit 75Hz ]
Uptime [ 13h 44m 41s ]
Network [ LAN IP: 10.0.0.2 MAC IP: 00-50-BA-25-CB-5B Hostname: rarxp ]
Temp [ CPU: 49°C Case: 29°C HDD: 43°C ]

I didn't close any programs though, but I had nothing heavy running and I stopped playing MP3s & minimised IRC.

Well, this is a 1.83ghz XP2000, which is faster than a stock XP2200....

But, you misunderstand the naming scheme. The number refers to the speed an equivalent THUNDERBIRD would be running at, not a P4. Seeing as P4s are poor chips designed for high clocks with low IPC, the Thunderbird also weed all over them, which makes XP2200 == 2.66ghz P4 feasible.
