So how does Jon Favreau's iron clad superhero flik match up to the rest. Being a massive superhero fan i went and saw it last night, despite being a few weeks old, the cinema was still full to the rafters with excited teens, couples in the corners and marvel fanatics. Here is my review onIron Man
Story
Set in modern times, we see Tony Stark, a billionaire playboy who is main owner of Stark Industries, the world's largest producer and distributor of Weaponary. Getting most his business from the US army he sets out to Afghanistan to demonstrate his devistating new weapon, the "Jericho." (within the first 25 minutes we are shwon some of the most amazing special effects in cinema, seeing the jericho cause destruction over the desert) Anyway, Stark is being escorted to show off this bold new weapon to try seal a deal and earn more money, when he comes under attack from terrorists. The whole convoy of heavy armed veichles are taken down along with the troops inside, Stark manages to make it to the safety behind some rocks, but through some irony he is taken by the terroist unit back to their secret hideout in the mountains of Afghanistan.
Stark soon sees that the weapons he has created are being used by terrorists that have taken him and when he is asked to build a jericho missile for the enemy, he accepts, but with the intention of escaping.
Without giving too much away, the first Iron man gets built and Stark manages to get back to his Mansion in California, where he proceeds to research and built a more advanced suit.
With advanced technology and testing, the Iron Man suit is built. Enabling Tony Stark to fly, shoot energy balls and gives him super strength. The next part of the film sees Stark getting to grips with his new power suit and seeing the rise of the main enemy - Iron Monger. Based on Iron man's original suit but 3 times the size, Iron Monger begins to terrorize the city and only one person can save the day - Iron Man. But you have to watch it to see how it ends! (wait until the end of the credits for a short clip that, for hardcore fans it will mean a lot, to others, not so much)
So thats the idea of the film, does it work?
Yes, and very well to be honest. The graphics are amazing and the detail on the final Iron Man suit is fantastic, it looks so sleek and realistic you would be hard pushed to tell the difference! Clever plot twists and beautiful designs make this film a must see for all ages, while there are a lot more sexual refernces than other hero films it all fits in well with Tony Stark, who is played naturally by Robert Downy Jr.
The plot is well thought and detailed enough to keep it interesting all the way through. Being the first in what i can only assume will be a trilogy at least, the movie is heavily based on story and less on fighting, while i dont think the suit is ever seen at its full capacity in this film (keeping things back for a sequel) there is enough there to make you want one for yourself!
In my opinion a truly awesome film which will be a big hitter for a long time. I would recommend watching this at the cinema just due to the image quality and the fact you really should not be waiting too long to see it.
I have to give this film a Super 8.5!! Ranking as my favourite super hero film at current!
