It IS important that we acknowledge the old consoles that went before, as these are all part of what makes gaming what it is today. Even before Sonic and Mario were unleashed upon an unsuspecting world there were plenty of games to get excited about. A lot of people remember how they got addicted to games such as Gauntlet and Afterburner and were as excited about the home conversions of these classics as we are about today's, but back then gaming was still in it's infancy and anything was possible.
It is nice to think that people are still as excited today about new technology and what it can do, but it doesn't seem to move as fast as it did back then. Now all we have are better graphics and shading, then it was all about how far you could push every single aspect, the sound, colour and the games themselves. Perhaps I'm just being cynical, but there seems to be a certain levelling out of gaming recently.
Or is it just me?
