I have a throat infection that's making it extremely painful to eat. Not to mention the damage I inflicted on my gums brushing my teeth!

Hmmm... the slash on my left arm from a knife has healed now, which is nice.
I burnt my tongue on some coffee I had this morning. The 0.5cm gash in my left arm has healed now so I can't use that - damn
Your doctor sounds like an idiot. You can change your GP - you don't have to say why, you can just do it. Find someone who'll take you seriously: I think it's quite important.
