I have seen many myspace layouts which adopt images of celebrities and brands etc. I was wondering if its simply fine to use such images in layouts as it surely helps advertise the brand or film. Do you have to ask for permission or anything like that?
Thanks
P.S
I have just noticed the Gameaday advertisement which uses Mario, the guy from Assassin's Creed and Zelda. Can i take images from the web and mould them into whatever i want?

Prince is currently finding out about the negative publicity bit after he recently threatened to sue fan sites for using pictures of him. :)
There is such a thing as fair use as well. It can be a bit of murky subject though. If you're using images for illustrative purposes (of that subject) then you can probably claim fair use. Also games publishers often release images/literature for promotional use (within certain bounds). So I doubt Freeola are doing anything wrong.
