"How strange?"

So am getting ready for Xmas and am on the phone to the wine club ordering wine for Mrs Digi! and the phone starts to make a cracking and popping sound, and all of a suddenly!! the phone died on me, :~( poor phone and no wine ordered for Mrs Digi, However though as the old saying goes every cloud has a silver lining, my broadband is still working :~)

I thought thtat one needed the other to work? IE no phone line no broadband? so how come my broadband is working yet my phones are dead? BT say its a fault at the exchange, and should be resolved by Monday.

The signal for your phone and ADSL service is split at the exchange by a DSLAM (Digital subscriber line access multiplexer). Voice data is then passed onto the voice switch, which probably has something wrong with it, hence voice not working but ADSL still working.
