Here are 62 amazing facts about the Gamecube and it's games. This should answer most of your questions and maybe persuade you to buy one. Well here it goes:
In The Beginning
1. The original codename for the Gamecube was Project Dolphin.
2.The original launch date was around Christmas 2000 for the Japanese but Nintendo and other companies were no where near finishing.
3. Then later it was anounced that it would make it for the first half of 2001 in USA and Europe.
4.It was not until August 2000 at Spaceworld that Nintendo finally revealed the Gamecube.
5. Another delay by then. March 2001 for Japan and July 2001 for USA and Europe.
6. At E3 Nintendo showed the power of the Gamecube with games like Luigi's Mansion. X Box had shown their console at E3.
7. Another delay in release again shown at E3. Japan had 14th of September, USA had 18th of November and we were told we would have it in Spring 2002.
Release Days in Japan and USA
8. Japan had only 3 release games (Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball and Wave Race Blue Storm)
9. 300,000 Gamecubes were sold in three days.
10. Luigi was number 1 bestseller and all three games combined sold 360,000.
11. USA had 15 release games (All-Star Baseball 2002, Batman Dark Tomorrow,Crazy Taxi, Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX, Extreme G3, Luigi's Mansion, Madden NFL '02, NFL Quarterback Club '02, NHL Hitz '02, SSX Tricky, Star Wars Rogue Leader Rogue Squadron 2, Super Monkey Ball, The Simpsons Road Rage, Universal Studios and finally Wave Race Blue Storm.) The Console
12.The structure of the copper Gekko chip is based around Power PC architecture.
13. Since this is made of copper there is no need for a huge cooling fan like on other consoles.
14. Nintendo signed a $1 billion deal with IBM to make the chip.
15. The chip is a 485MHz copper chip, where data has to travel 0.18 microns.
16. The chip is smaller than a C button on the N64 control.
The Discs
17. The discs have a capacity of 1.47 GB.
18. The discs size is 3 inches.
19. This stops piracy.
20. This also helps profits since they are cheaper to make then cartridges.
21. This means more games, cheaper prices.
22. You cannot run the discs in a DVD player.
23. The Q Cube however will play DVD's and Games and should be around £243.
The Graphics
24. The gamecube can do 20 million polygons per second.
25. The PS2 cannot do near that at all.
26. The Gamecube and The X Box are near the same when it comes to graphics.
27. The games themselves will ahev no fog whatsoever. Fog is when the companies cannot be bothered to do the background and want to hide the fact they didn't do it.
28. The light is great and can show upto eight light sources on any object.
29. Anti-Alialising is nowhere to be seen in the Gamecube. This means there are no jagged lines.
30. The Gamecube can produce upto eight textures in a single pass. Ths is better than any other console.
The Controller
31. There are sets of buttons on the Gamecube Controller. They are the shoulder buttons, Sticks consisting of the C-Stick and the normal analogue, The normal buttons like A and B)
32. The wavebird is a little chunkier and works with no wires. It uses infa-red for this.
33. There are 4 control ports for you and yur friends to play.
The Sound
34. The chip is 16 bit.
35. It is comparable to the X-Box
36. The sampling rate is the industry standard of 48KHz.
37. Musyx is a system that allows musicians to transfer their music into the agme easily.
38. All this means is that you will know where a sound is coming from and it will come out crisp clear.

150 million transformed and lit polygons per second
100+ million polygons per second sustained performance (shading, texturing)

In The Beginning

2.The original launch date was around Christmas 2000 for the Japanese but Nintendo and other companies were no where near finishing.

4.It was not until August 2000 at Spaceworld that Nintendo finally revealed the Gamecube.
5. Another delay by then. March 2001 for Japan and July 2001 for USA and Europe.
6. At E3 Nintendo showed the power of the Gamecube with games like Luigi's Mansion. X Box had shown their console at E3.
7. Another delay in release again shown at E3. Japan had 14th of September, USA had 18th of November and we were told we would have it in Spring 2002.

8. Japan had only 3 release games (Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball and Wave Race Blue Storm)
9. 300,000 Gamecubes were sold in three days.

The Console
