Easter is here. Well, in around an hour at time of writing anyway.

So, are you all excited?? Excited that the Easter Bunny is coming and giving you all lovely, chocolate eggs?? Excited about having a nice, big dinner with your family?? Yes, I would expect so. So am I, in fact.

Are you excited about going to Church tomorrow, to celebrate the real meaning of Easter?? Somehow, I don't think so. I expect a lot of ignorant families out there haven't even told their kids the real meaning.

You know what gets me?? That nearly the whole of our country will celebrate Easter tomorrow. And yet, less than half are Christians. I thought Easter was a Christian festival?? If you're a non-Christian and celebrating Easter, who not do the same for all the Jewish and Muslim festivals?? (Although with the Muslim one, you'd spent half your day nodding in front of a wall).

Ashley has just pointed out that while we're all mourning the Queen Mother's death, a significantly more important death happened around 2000 years ago, when Jesus was killed on the cross to wash away our sins. And yet, some don't even KNOW WHO JESUS IS!!

At least most of you on here know, and respect, the views of Christians. I don't know, maybe some of you will think about Jesus tomorrow. But for a lot of people, it will all be about chocolate.

It's all thanks to commercialisation (sp?) It's the same for Christmas. Most celebrate it by giving each-other presents, and eating a massive turkey. If I asked most 5-16 year olds what first came to their head when I said "Christmas", the answer would be presents. The same goes for "chocolate" and "Easter."

Bloody Argos and their stupid funning commercials. "Brighter Presents, Brighter Christmas." Shut it. It's people like you who make Christmas a time where you can get your greedy paws on as much money as possibly, by taking advantage of these festivals. It's people like you that have helped rid the words "Jesus" and "Christianity" from Easter and Christmas. Damn you.

I'd like to ask you a favour. Most newbies and regulars will ignore it, but those of you who know me well may not. Even if you're not a Christian, you can do this. Go to Church. Please. Don't go in the morning if you don't feel up to it, I'm sure there are evening services. Of course you don't have to do this, and I won't care that much if you don't. But if you want to celebrate Easter in the right way, then maybe you'll want to go. If not for that, then for me. Bring your families, if you go to the right Church then it can be a laugh.

Some of you will laugh this proposal off, and I don't mind. If you don't then fine, because I know it's tough. I know most of you won't go, because hey, you don't know me properly. I'm just a name on a chat forum. But maybe...maybe you'll feel like it. I'm hoping so.

If not though, then please just remember this post. Remember me. Remember the true meaning. I'm sorry to rant and rave at you all, about something you probably don't believe in. But it hurts. It hurts to see people ignoring the true meaning of this wonderful festival, where a man proved he was the Son Of God, by coming back from the dead. A miracle. Something that has effected your lives ever since you were born. After all, you can't just ignore the Bible, Church etc. Of course you cannot read the Bible if you don't want to, and you cannot go to Church if you don't want to, but you know they're there.

I'll stop now, I'm probably boring you. If you have taken the time to read this then I thank-you, and if you do choose to go to Church tomorrow then I thank-you profusely. Because it means you have managed to shove away the commercialism for just one hour, in favour of the true meaning. And if you just think about Jesus coming back to life tomorrow, then you have done the same.

Thanks for reading, Ant.

What gets me, is Hot Cross Buns.

Yeah there's a cross, but where's the Jesus?

Put a little marzipan Jesus on top, and they'd be delicious.

And how exactly does Christian rituals please your god?

For a Christian you're suprisingly bigoted.

And during that time we still did the whole Easter Egg thing

Good point, but we have to think that is there a 'real' meaning to Easter? If the true meaning to Easter is about religion, then many of us on here shouldn't celebrate it, myself included.

'Just read this, and I'm very angry. Whatever your views on the Royal Family, someones REAL died. Jesus is just a belief. I don't believe he existed at all. You cannot judge a real person's death against a person who is possibly fictional.'

This didn't make me angry (as I don't value my beliefs about religion very much), but it made me think a little that it was hypocritical. There is (in my opinion) no conclusive evidence that Jesus is real and not fictional. Whereas, you just have to turn on your television and see that the Queen Mother was a real person, definately. I'm not a believer, but that hardly means that Jesus is non-existent. He may be within every one of us, but I have my massive doubts. Until there is some sort of proof (be it personal experience as the best type)

'I was offended when I saw a poster in someone's window saying "This Is Jesus' Week" or something, with a picture of him on the cross'

In my opinion, if they have a poster 'promoting' Jesus, then they should also have one promoting the non-religious side, the Muslim side, the Sikh side and all the other sides, or it's a concealed form of racism. We have to remember that to be seen as respectable, we should respect everyone's religion, and by making one particular practise seem superior to all the others, it's therefore putting the others down, and that's not what we want. In my opinion, there should be no religious posters of any kind, or have a poster for every single religion, hence it's fair.

I don't celebrate Easter at all. Be it chocolate eggs or otherwise.

Why?
Because I'm not a Christian. Same as I don't celebrate Ramadan or Hannukah.

Not a miserly "Nyeh bloody fake holidays from Hallmark", but I don't believe in Jesus - therefore I choose to not mark it in anyway whatsoever.

Christmas is different, because I'm a greedy get and like getting stuff from people I know normally wouldn't bother.

I like Jesus in December.

I haven't had time to read all the replies to the original message so I'm sorry if I'm saying stuff that's already been said.

To me, easter is about giving and recieving chocolate and easter eggs. I have heard the stories about the true meaning of Easter, but they just have no meaning to me.

I just don't believe in any religions, though I celebrate Easter and Christmas the commercial way in giving and recieving gifts. Even though I don't believe in the Christian views on these 'special' days, I do believe that a lot of good is achieved on these days. Christmas especially, brings friends and family together, if only for that one day of the year, where you can switch off the TV and enjoy each others company usually without argument from any wierd aunt or strange long lost cousin.

So even though I don't actually believe in the Christian views, no Christian could say any wrong is actually being done on these days. These days promote peace and love throughout families and encourage you to spend some time with your friends instead of doing what you normally do.

I don't believe in God, I do believe there was a bloke called Jesus, but I don't believe in all the miracles he has been said to have done. I just find that science is more believable to be able to explain what has, is and will happen.

I do believe that Christianity is very contradicting though. If not the religion itself, then some of the followers throughout history. Throughout history, there have been wars and ethnic cleansing by the Christians, despite those two famous quotes from the Bible (sorry if they're not exact) "Love thy neighbour" and "Do unto others as you would want done unto yourself". So why is that Christians (including British Christians) thoughout history have hated the Jews and discriminated them.

I'm not saying it's wrong to believe in Christian values. In my opinion, everyone has the right to believe in what they want, as long as no harm comes to others for their beliefs.

"apart from saying that what I believe happened, did happen."

In your opinion

I don't mind people going on about God, but when they say it "matter of factly" as if it's definitely true and any other explanation is wrong, that gets my back up

Yes, well...it did happen. It's basically been proved, they've found his tomb and everything. It whether you believe he was the son of God or not, which I do.

The same way I

Why?? It basically is, since we're celebrating Easter. It offends me to see people celebrate Easter, but not for the true meaning. It's our point of view, why shouldn't we speak it out?

And Stryke, what you said is true, the point is that it shouldn't be.

Anyway, I've had enough now. Sorry if I've offended you, obviously I did not mean to and to be honest I didn't think I posted anything too over the top, apart from saying that what I believe happened, did happen.
