Sorry, I know I posted this in chat, just realised it's probably far more appropriate here:

It's that time again for me to shout at you all about how great LANs are and why you should all come to i10. Left this a bit later than I intended to, but I think there are still about 400 placed available..

i10 is a massive LAN, biggest in the UK - basically, if a game has a multiplayer mode, there will be someone playing it. The idea is to take your PC to the Newbury Racecourse for 4 days, meet a lot of like-minded gamers, have fun and take lots of embaressing photos of drunk people to bribe them with later..

Entry is £70, which may seem fairly steep, but it does cover all 4 days, and most of the staff are volunteers - the money goes towards equipment for the next event. This is the biggest yet, 1000 gamers, should be excellent. It's also the first UK public showcase of the Xbox - 8 Xboxes running networked multiplayer Halo, each with a 50" plasma display, up to 16 players..

Tournaments of choice are Counter-Strike, Quake 3, Unreal Tournament and RTCW, but there are usually some free ones around the FTP servers and plenty of friendlies running on most other games.

If anyone's interested in this, the dates are March 29 - April 1 (Easter Bank Holiday weekend), you need your pc and some way of getting to the event - all the network kit is supplied. Be good to meet some of you there, and our CS clan is lacking a player - if anyone feels like filling this place, let me know, the only requirement is that you suck as much as the rest of us and don't take it seriously..

I was kidding, heh, i'd definatly like to try cutton holwes in the casing and see what I can stuff inside, not at all worried about the brackets, it would have to be a pretty squarish monitor though *looks around*
-----------------------------------------------------------

>> I'm bored with my case now, it's nice, but I want aluminium..

One day maybe, it will be harder to shift around though, small price to pay for a hot...erm, cold looking case.
are they robust or are the panels quite flimsey?
-----------------------------------------------------------

if you havn't guessed, i've got an excess of monitors lying around my house

>> DAMNYOU! I need monitors desperately, more boxen than I have screen to go with them..

one of them works, they're all 14" the others will need some fiddling with, even if they're completly broken, they'll have some use.
-----------------------------------------------------------

>> It's just like the rest of my life really...I don't actually like pot noodles that much..cold sausage rolls all the way =P

Theres nowt wrong with sitting with your face glued to your monitor, i'm gonna try and see how long my face can stick to it this weekend.

"pleasure" pretty sure I don't know what you mean :p
Tournament stuffs ok anyway, if they had forums I guarantee you 100% that you'd rather chat to the guy/gal next to you on the forums rather than open your mouth :D
-----------------------------------------------------------

Solitare?

>> No, but there's always some free game on the network - it was armagedtron last time, may still be, usually horribly
addictive..

Noticed Planetarion on the list, seems pretty similar, it's obviously different to the internet version, not much could be achieved in 4 days?
-----------------------------------------------------------

Prettiest Box.....um, case?

it..a lot of competition, some of the past ones have been put on moddin.net

Also, would anyone mock me senseless if i showed up with Win98 standard desktop, or should I download some swish tings like a GC layout...

>> Not at all, go for speed and streamlining...I like my pretty desktop with skins and wallpaper, but for pure speed I disable it all.

Sounds fair enough, wouldn't have thought it would do too much damage, but any little bit of extra speed is useful I guess.
-----------------------------------------------------------

>> I'll answer questions quite happily all night, but can you actually come..

Might take you up on that offer soon :p not right now, my parents leave early tomorrow *sigh* thanks for all your help.
Sounds like a great event, nice of the guys incharge to set it up and for keeping it running for so long. ++ hope you find your 5/6th player... he he.

A coffee monitor would sweep the floor, no one could complete with that...except maybe gibbo's kit, but he's just a PC god..I'm bored with my case now, it's nice, but I want aluminium..

DAMNYOU! I need monitors desperately, more boxen than I have screen to go with them..

I blame you personally for this

sounds healthy, quite an appetising diet, pot

It's just like the rest of my life really...I don't actually like pot noodles that much..cold sausage rolls all the way =P

BTW is there

also, also.....I guess security is quite good

Lol, Cannon stylee...nah, he got 0wned for being an annoying little teamkiller, everyone got annoyed with him, collectively chased him on to the racecourse and gave him the gaffa treatment...really, if anyone does try to nick your kit, they'll be set upon by 900 other irate gamers. The event tends to work on trust, everyone's there to have a good time, and I've only ever heard of 2 things being taken (a hard drive which was lying around and a game wallet..may want to take backup copies of discs).

The security system is actually very simple - you get given a badge, you slap a sticker on your PC and Monitor, and when you try to leave, if the numbers on your badge and that of the box/monitor don't match, the security guys grab the kit and haul you out..

Although I would have thought
> the people atthese events would have a lot of respect for eachothers privacy, so
> this wouldn't be an issuse, but it only takes one! *cough*

Indeed, they're mostly good blokes. Just damn scary...a small obsession with fluffling..

also,

Boat race??

The boat race is always a source of controversy at i-series, the height of the event for many punters, where they get to laugh at the staff for being a bunch of lightweights...It's staff VS punters, the first team for all the members to down a pint and shove the glass on their head - points deducted for spills, and pouring the whole glass over your head isn't allowed. At i8, the CS league was tied, so the winner was to be decided by a DOPEy VS Dolph drinking contest..we won that, shame that they complained at the admins that it was unfair, then we had to play a match against them with a load of drunk members who couldn't shoot straight..

Whos got
> the most porn on their HDD?

No pr0n allowed on display. You can have it on your hard disk, along with whatever warez and mp3s you like, but no open shares allowed, and no viewing it in public. Wizzo got a bit shafted when he was doing a presentation in the main foyer, dropped back to his desktop and displyed the WAREZ and PRON folders to everyone..excellent example for the MPUK owner to set the punters..He then topped it off by typing his admin password in to notepad instead of the login box..foyer emptied while we all ran off to our pcs to explore his box over the network =D

Solitare scores? (is there some kind of challenge
> for Solitar/Hearts?Minesweeper?)

No, but there's always some free game on the network - it was armagedtron last time, may still be, usually horribly addictive..

Prettiest Box.....um, case?

Yup, the CCM competition is for the person with the nicest case, or the one that has had the most work put in to it..a lot of competition, some of the past ones have been put on moddin.net

Not at all, go for speed and streamlining...I like my pretty desktop with skins and wallpaper, but for pure speed I disable it all.

I'll answer questions quite happily all night, but can you actually come..

That sounds sooooo good, and as you said, if the games got a multiplayer mode it's more than likely that people will be playing it! in that case i'm taking GTA with me! YEAH!

The Xbox stand should be excellent,

Damn well should be, although 16 players 1000 people turning up *sigh* well even a look at it is better than none :p

I really will try and make one, along with my CD/floppy drive monitor.

if you havn't guessed, i've got an excess of monitors lying around my house, a weird freako who owns a pc store near me throws (literally) loads of pc stuff out the backdoor of his shop for any weirdos (like myself) that can be bothered to trek up there and grab some crap, me got 3 monitors and a fluffy pink monitor cover (that was supposed to be a joke, don't know why I wrote it, i'll buy one eventually)

other rule I forgot to mention - no taking kettles etc, cause havoc with the power supply, there's usually a boiler for coffee, pot noodles etc in the foyer anyway.

Wow, interest...yes, you need a NIC, but they'll sell you one and fit it if you don't already have it. It is, as you say, a nerdy dream, excellent fun..

You can enter in to as many tourneys as you like, as long as the timings don't overlap..listen out for announcements on the PA system so you don't miss matches. You're not restricted to games you can play, as long as you turn up to your tourney matches, play whatever you want in friendlies for the rest of the time, always servers running.

The Xbox stand should be excellent, PCmods have a stand in the Long room too, and I think there's another modding competition being run...other rule I forgot to mention - no taking kettles etc, cause havoc with the power supply, there's usually a boiler for coffee, pot noodles etc in the foyer anyway.

You;d have to be stoopid or afraid of people with faces not to go to this event! I can't see how they manage it, also did you say the £70 includes b&b? no? shame, i'll have to build a microwave and a coffee machine into my monitor, then it might look bigger than a 14"!!! cool....

anyway, this i10 thing is a damn good idea, playing LAN games for 4 days! drinking beer for 4 days!! and laughing at people for 4 days!!!

sounds like a nerdy dream...

guess you'll need a NIC in your pc to enter this event, but thats no problem if you havn't aready got one, costs around £10 these days me finks.

also, also, can you enter more than one event? or do you enter one event and come prepared with other games incase your matches get boring and you manage to stumble over to the friendlys tables????

also X-BOX!!! 8 of them!? *drools* must go to i10 don't think my parents would mind a house without a pc for 4 days...
