Darksiders II follows the story of Death, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, in a journey that runs in tandem with the first Darksiders game, as Death attempts to redeem his brother, War, who was originally blamed for starting the Apocalypse.

Darksiders II features a much larger world and full weapon and armor upgrade system as well as larger and more challenging dungeons, Darksiders II also includes new enemies and bosses. Vigil Games aim was to improve Darksiders II in every aspect of the original.

The Main Dungeons:
The Cauldron
The Drenchfort
The Lost Temple
The Foundry
The Gilded Arena
Phariseer's Tomb
Judicator's Tomb
Psychameron
City of the Dead
Earth
The Ivory Citadel
The Black Stone

As well as new weapons and armor Darksiders II now features many new maneuvering skills available for Death including:

Wall Running: Death can run up and along smooth walls but only for a short time so survey your surroundings and time your runs.

Vaulting: Death will automatically vault over objects such as wooden pegs or hand holds during his wall run, this means that wall runs can be extended to reach further points.

Wall Bouncing: In narrow, vertical, Corridors Death can bounce from wall to wall to reach higher levels out of reach by any other means.

Swimming: Death can swim in any large body of water, using the secondary attack button to dive and the jump button to rise.

Summoning Despair: Despair, Deaths loyal steed, can be called on at any point when in a large open area outside of a dungeon, this will allow you to cover more ground at a greater speed and be able to attack and charge at enemies

There are multiple damages types that can be used when receiving a weapon imbued with that particular element such as:

Fire: This damage type sets enemies on fire and deals damage over time

Arcane: This is the damage dealt by Deaths Reaper Form, there are also combos which allow Death to use his Reaper Form in bursts to deal extra damage

Inferno: Burnt enemies that you struck, spreads to nearby enemies with splash effect, this is a stronger version of Fire

Ice: This attack type inflicts freezing which slows enemies down allowing you to evade attacks and land counterattacks much simpler

Shock: Causes small amounts of electrical damage upon strike

Lightning: A stronger version of Shock allows larger Shock damage and inflicts damage over time and leaving a chance for enemies to be stunned for 2 to 3 seconds.

Piercing: This allows armor to be irrelevant and deal significant damage to heavily armored enemies.

Reaper Form: As you progress through the game and Death levels up, you will unlock his Reaper Form which drastically improves his offensive and defensive powers by producing large amounts of Arcane damage. It can take a while to charge up so it is recommended to be used only in emergencies such as if you are going to die or for finishing off a boss. Reaper Form is charged by killing enemies with Deaths Scythes.

Possessed Weapons: These are special weapons rarely found throughout the Darksiders world which can be leveled up through "feeding" it your normal weapons and armor that are no longer of any value

There are multiple new bosses to accompany the Dungeons all have their own strengths and weaknesses so it is best to carry around multiple weapon damage types:

War
Gharn
Karkinos
Construct Hulk
The Guardian
Gnashor
Phariseer
The Bone Keeper
Basileus and Achidna
The Wailing Host
Jamaerah the Scribe
Archon
Samael
Avatar of Chaos (Absalom)

Darksiders II features an RPG styled skill point system which allows you to upgrade certain skills. The skill point tree is divided into two: Harbinger and Necromancer. You must carefully choose which skills you select so as that they match your play style.

Deaths Attributes:

Health: This determines how much damage can be
taken before you meet your demise.

Wrath: Wrath is the equivalent to Mana it displays the
amount of Wrath Death can use to activate his skills.

Strength: This determines how much damage is dealt
attacking, the higher the number the greater the damage.

Defense: This determines the amount of damage Death
receives when being attacked, the higher the number, the
lesser the damage he takes.

Arcane: This determines the amount of damage that is
dealt by Death in his Reaper Form.

Resistance: This determines the amount of damage
damage Death takes when attacked by non-physical attacks
such as magical and elemental.

Primary Weapon: This shows how much damage is
dealt by Deaths Scythes.

Secondary Weapon: This shows how much damage is
dealt by Deaths current secondary weapon.

Primary Weapon Damage Per Second: This determines
the average damage Deaths weapons can inflict per second.

Critical Chance: This the percentage of the chance for
Death to land a critical hit, the default is 3%.

Critical Damage: This is the percentage multiplier of the
damage inflicted when a critical hit is landed, the default is
100% which is double the damage.

Health Regen: This stat shows the amount of health
Death regenerates per second, the default is zero so a weapon
that provides the benefit is required.

Wrath Regen: Similar to Health Regen, this stat shows
the amount of Wrath regenerated per second, the default is
zero.

Arcane Critical Chance: This shows the chance of
landing a critical hit while in Reaper Form, the default is 3%.

Arcane Critical Damage: This shows the percentage
multiplier of the damage dealt when a critical hit is landed
in Reaper Form, the default is 100% meaning double damage
is dealt.

Execution Chance: This shows the percentage chance of
Death triggering an execution move against an enemy, the
default is 10% which means Death can execute 1 out of every
10 enemies.

There are Primary and Secondary weapons in Darksiders II, the Primaries are Deaths scythes which can be swapped out for more powerful or different elemental type versions later on.

Secondaries have two categories: Light Weapons and Heavy Weapons, Light Weapons include: Gauntlets, Claws, Tonfas and Bucklers. These allow low to average damage but are very fast allowing quick bursts of damage, Heavy Weapons include: Hammers, Maces, Axes and Polearms. These are large weapons that deal significant amounts of damage per strike but are very slow. These allow massively devastating combos to be unleashed upon your enemies.

There is now also the Soul Splitter ability allowing Death to, well, split his soul so that there are two characters which can be switched between to complete tasks that require simultaneous button pressing and other tasks.

Redemption: Deaths pistols which were originally Wars, fire as fast as you can pull the trigger. The upside to these pistols is they have self replenishing ammunition so no ammo boxes needed

Salvation: This large, assault rifle styled weapon is picked up while on Earth (this weapon is not owned after pick up it has to be dropped). It has three firing modes: Full Auto (Right Trigger), Burst (Left Trigger) and ground stomp (X Button).

GoreHammer: The GoreHammer has the ability to fire explosives (Right Trigger) and then detonate (Left Trigger) to cause large explosions.

The controls are simple enough but sometimes I find that when climbing over objects on walls, holding the analog stick left seems not to work and I run upwards but apart from that everything else is fine.

The graphics are good although sometimes slow but still fantastic and rarely have any problems. The sounds are great, no repetitive audio or glitches.

This game is fantastic compared to the first Darksiders and would I would definitely recommend it to others 10/10
