When I was younger (ie late teens to mid twenties) for some reason (most probably insecurity) I tried to please all the people all the time - which is impossible.

The result was people thought I was a bit strange as I'd act a different way with different people, but when I was in the company of those people at the same time I didn't know how to act to please them both at the same time and ended up acting in a completely different way which confused the hell out of both sets of people.

Nowadays thankfully for most of the time I have the attitude of "this is me, if you like it, good, if not, lump it or get lost". It make me feel so much better to be true to myself but every so often I revert back to my old ways and end up hating myself for it afterwards.

The people who I want to think good of me are close family and close friends, and I still try and live up to all their expectations even though at timesI know it's impossible, but I still do it anyway.

So do you care what people think of you? And if so who are those people?

The short answer is "No".

The somewhat longer answer is, I don't feel any need to make people like me, I am who I am, and no matter what I do, you'll either like me or not. I don't think I can ever make everyone like me, and those that don't will get over the horror of meeting me eventually.

That's not to say I go out of my way to upset people either, but I will answer a question put to me with as much honesty as I can. This has, inevitably, caused me issues in the past, but it's a darned sight easier to argue your point if you really do believe it, and it's a lot harder for others to run you down for it if they don't agree with you.

Depends what sort of person you are. I like to think I'm immune to people's opinions, like a lot of people do, but you don't even notice the little things you do to adjust to people's expectations.

For example, I always try to make people I despise laugh or I'm friendly to them (caused me problems in the past, and still does!)

I learnt a long time ago that its useless to pretend to be someone you're not.

But the same goes for towing the line at work. I've got far more out of telling people exactly what I think and being honest than I ever did of just agreeing with whoever was in charge, and I feel I'm now more respected because of it.

Only the few people I care about, otherwise no. Having said that, it benefits me to keep people onside who are useful to me. I get away with murder by keeping up appearances.

No[/i][/LINK]

I don't care what others think of me, but at the same time it's important people are made aware of that
