No crappy cartoon here, though the bird itself will be changing from hand puppet to a proper stand-alone puppet to bring it up to date.
Toby Hull has been touring with Emu for a while, ever since his father's death in 99, in fact, so he's no stranger to the bird with attitude. Emu himself has been on TV since the 70's.
I have fond memories of Emu TV in the late 70's and early 80's, others remember the Pink Windmill and Grotbags from later on, with the catchphrase 'there's somebody at the door' becoming widely recited around the country.
Emu has also courted controversy by being made to attack presenters, children and anyone else, most famously on an episode of Parkinson. 'That bird' stood out from other puppets, even though it was a simple design, mainly because of how Rod Hull handled it and his somewhat mad genius in making it come to life.
GROTBAGS!
