I loathe Boy Bands...
In a world were John Lennon gets shot in the head... Why are A1 are alllowed to safely walk the streets!?!?!...
However...
Record comapnies taking advantage of a selling point is to be expceted, since they are now, most, very large businesses...
Steps, openly admit, that they were put together to be a one hit wonder with their country dancing song, and had people not bought their later music thats the way it would have stayed...
So... I suppose what I'm saying is that its not the music industry thats to blame here, its the consumer...
The music industry was always going to be profit based, but the allowance of the corporation to dictae our listneing choices is ourt fault...
Equally were not doing our kids any favours by not teaching them the difference between computer generated pulp and a skillfully crafted tune...
However... :)
Having said all that... Music tatstes are very personal... and just because we dont like the music, does that give us a right to say that noone else should listen to it either? ... When did our music choice become so much more important that that of anyone else? ... Maybe it is us and not them thats out of step(s) :)
Recordings written to a CD last for hundreds of years, historians from the future will use them as part of their attempts to understand out way of life... And instead of the works of the worlds greatest composers, comedians, the thoughts of the greatest scientists and philosiphers, we'll giving them BoyZone and NSync :)
For the best argument against corporate music, Ref : Bill Hicks... Actually its just wise to ref : Bill Hicks pretty much all the time :)
Its not enough the fact that these people are miming to tape and dancing in perfect syncronisation and monopolising the music charts but they force previously good bands to change their style of music to fit in with the "pop" style
take the offspring for example, before americana and their latest album they were a great band with some great punk/rock music. Now they release songs for the pop lovers, they are still a punk/rock band but just putting two albums on together (a new and old) you realise the difference imediatly.
I understand they have to do it for the money but its the stupid money loving record companies that are responsible.
damm their eyes
What we need to do it murder every teenage girl/boy in the world who BUYS the bloody cd`s - that`ll stop these bands from existing.... harsh but fair.
