Why have they made horizontal and vertical stands for the PS2 ? they stand up perfectly without them, to me it's just another ploy to get another fiver out of the player, that's what it is.

They made the stand to make sure that it doesn't fall over. I wouldn't want my PS2 standing on its side without me knowing that it isn't going to fall and they look cool too.

I have also noticed that the games do get scratched if you have it vertical.

Lol has anyone seen that advert in PS2 magazines with a PS2 upright? In the smallprint it says "It is recommended that the PS2 be stood upright only with a vertical stand" or something like that. It made me laugh.

The horizontal stand is purely for display purposes, and not necessaryat all.

The vertical stand, however, while not essential, is adds a lot of peace-of-mind if you have your PS2 in the vertical position.

It may be stable on its own, but I see the vertical stand as a necessity, as my PS2 is on a very small surface and I'd hate to see it rock and fall off if I snagged the cable while I was playing.

Incidentally, I saw an *excellent* unofficial vertical stand in my local store the other day - it has a cable which slots into the controller port, and has a built-in multi-tap on the left slope, allowing you to connect up to 4 controllers, and storage slots for six games on the right - all for £24.99.
