Why are people so afraid of death?

If I died in during this war, I wouldn't be concerned about it. How could I be? I'd be dead.

Fear of death is an instinct, much like the need to pee in the bushes or the lop-sided sneer that appears whenever you see a beautiful woman accidentally show a little too much flesh.

We can stop peeing in the bushes, we can suppress the sneers, why can't we all stop fearing the inevitable?
