Manga is - A) A cartoon strip
B) The name of the company that brings Anime to
western audiences.
I love Anime. I love it to bits. I've only been a full fan for only a few months, watching whatever I can on TV/Video or otherwise.
I've actually been a fan of Anime for several years, when I was introduced to Ghost in the shell and BubbleGum Crisis by a mate of mine. Then I got into the TV series of Fist of the North Star, showing late night (as usual) on channel 4. I never really took it on board, until a while ago, when I watched Tokyo Revelation on the sci-fi channel. I started watching more, more and more.
Then came my DVD player......
I can't believe I spent nearly £300 in under a month of DVD's, with a large percentage of them being Anime.
I bought -
Ghost in the Shell - fantastic, the DVD enhances it
superbly.
Blood: The last vampire - Short, but good while it lasted.
Urotsukidoji 1+2 - One of the films that started the
"Breasts (I toned it down) and tentacles"
Urotsukidoji 3 - Excellent, yet confusing continuation.
AppleSeed - One of the films that got the ball rolling for
me.
Perfect Blue - Amazing thriller, very psychological.
StreetFighter 2 - Suprisingly good anime, I was a fan of the
games.
StreetFighter Alpha - pretty good for the money.
Princess Mononoke - One of the best Anime films I have ever
seen. I spent the extra fiver for the
collectors edition that came with a book
I also bought Akira on video, what the hell does Tetsuo become at the Olympic stadium?
Thank you Sci-fi, channel 4's god-awful treatment of the very little Anime they did show forced me to get Cable. After stopping Fist of the North Star and showing only Shadow Skill the movie, I wrote to channel 4 complaining, they came up with a feeble excuse that the nature of Anime was too extreme for viewing. From channel 4 !!!!! I ask you, the channel that has swearing during day time, shows a large amount of pornography and banned films !! By the way that was the same excuse they used for not renewing their contract to show WWF Heat.
*Rant over*
My shopping list is getting larger, with Riding Bean, patlabor, Ninja scroll and imports of Genocyber, violence Jack, Urotsukidoji 4, My neighbour Totoro, Nausicaa and Adventure Kid(Duo). Hurrah for Christmas !!
Fingers crossed for all of NeonGenesis Evangelion on DVD.
From Latino, ta-ra for now !

and everyone calls "anime" manga because manga make vitually all the movies that get noticed so everyone calls it manga..(i could be wrong but i dont care, you were still showing off)
Anyone know of any new films out in Japan that are dying to be translated and released in the USA and here? By new, I mean made within the last year, not a decade ago and finally being released, like Akira was on video in the UK.
> I'm rather upset that I'm forced to call it Manga instead of Anime.
who is forcing you to call it manga?
god have some back bone why dont you
