This game comes from the creative mind of Tim Schafer, co-creator of such games as Monkey Island and Grim Fandango, Tim Schafer has created one of the finest platforming adventures, with a creative twist unseen in games that predated it. It combines traditional platforming elements with powerful storytelling, witty and sometimes satirical humour, and a creative splash that is beyond its time.
The game takes place at Whispering Rock Summer Camp, a government training facility to develop selective children’s psychic abilities. The player takes control of Raz, a runaway circus performer who dreams of joining the camp. Raz, along with his fellow psychonauts, travel inside various character’s minds. These minds provide the basis for the levels, which make effective use of symbolism and Raz discover’s hidden information about the characters as they battle their inner demons and fears.
This is the strongest game; in terms of creativity and originality. No game has been quite like this. The game is by no means beautiful, but has a very unique and lovable art style which makes this game truly unique, instead, focusing on immersive gameplay that high quality graphics.
This is one of the finest platformer games, and is extremely underrated. Brilliant ideas and gameplay are combined which provides hours of fun for any player. Collectable psychic abilities are earned by gaining merit badges and thus ranking up, which adds new depth to the gameplay. It also has the genuine humour; which only a Tim Schafer game could provide. Every character has their own personality which makes them unique and noticeably developed.
A strong and fun game and by far one of the most original platformers!!!
9/10
