Apple can do no wrong, so this isnt happening. Nothing to comment on you see. ;)
It is a bit silly though, you would have expected an engineer to be especially careful with a prototype, especially from such a well-known company. Although if it was actually stolen, I suppose he's not too much to blame...
You have to laugh...
Steve Jobs has just said "Flash is closed and proprietary" - I've just 'tweeted' that does seem rather 'kettle/pot/black' coming from Apple!

But Steve Jobs gives plenty of reasons why Flash shouldn't be used in the iPhone; battery live reduces due to video decoding, stifling creativity.
In a way it's like asking why Apple don't get Microsoft to write their web browsing tool...
For the user it's still frustrating, true, but I wonder if Flash will be overtaken soon by newer formats on the older websites to improve speed and efficiency anyway?

On the one hand it's a massive reaction to a prototype being stolen, I'm sure Ford wouldn't go to the police for someone who paid for stolen plans to a secret car.
Why the police then decided to raid the editor's house is a bit strange unless they thought there were more than one prototype machines floating around.
Bad PR for Apple or just PR for Apple? Not sure.
The thing that makes me laugh the most is that this somehow makes any difference to some gadget that people go and buy. If it did then McDonalds would be dead, Sony would no longer be in business and Bill Gates would be working in a microchip processing plant on minimum wage by now...
