I've played 8 player Halo if that helps.

We played loads of games. But I lost most of them. And won a few.
And its fun. VERY fun.

I've done 4 player via a link up, and it's all been fine.
I should imagine 16 player is the same...

With Gamespy and X-connect (or whatever it is) it's kind of both. :)
