In a completely fictitious interview, EA have revealed exclusive details of why X-2 is going to be the biggest Final Fantasy of all time.

In your face!

The Final Fantasy game will come under EA's Big range of titles, sporting the EA Big logo, and instead of 'Summons' EA will provide 'Uber' moves for characters, during which the screen will go a bit psychadelic and rock music will blare out. This explains the snowboards in the amphitheatre at the beginning of the story.

Online!

EA wanted to point out that X-2 will not be online. We pointed out that it wasn't online anyway. They wanted to stress the point further, so that when users were still asked for a monthly subscription to play it offline they'd be well prepared for it.

Dynamic Weather Effects!

Due to time constraints these will not be included.

FFFranchise!

X-2 will be followed by X-3, X-4 and X-5 over the next 18 months, all featuring radical new developments and gameplay (read a new dress for Yuna and two extra missions).

Stunning Graphics!

EA went to great length to make sure that the environments that players would explore were as radically different from Final Fantasy X as possible. Hence why the environments will all look like they were ripped straight out of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

But at least Blitzball is still there!

EA have retained Blitzball but added much more functionality to the game. They've taken it out of the water altogether to allow more speed, added NFL jerseys' and helmets, made the Blitzball out of pigskin, included running commentary throughout the matches by John 'Wakka' Madden, and included a fully configurable gameplay book via onscreen menus between downs.

Final Fantasy X-2 published by Electronic Arts will be appearing in stores near you early 2004. Unless another RPG is scheduled to be released at the same time, in which case EA will take a few bits out and release it earlier

Ah well, why a new post?

"..Chertsey, UK - September 22, 2004 - Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), the world's leading interactive entertainment software company, today announced that its EA Partners division has signed an exclusive distribution and publishing agreement with Square Enix Co., Ltd for FINAL FANTASY® X-2 on the PlayStation ® 2 computer entertainment system throughout Europe and all PAL territories. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

FINAL FANTASY is the most successful role-playing game of all time, selling over 44 million units during the lifetime of the franchise. FINAL FANTASY X-2, scheduled for release in Europe in early 2004, is a sequel that brings back the cast and world of FINAL FANTASY X for another epic adventure. FFX-2 was released in Japan on 13 March 2003 and has already sold over 2 million units to consumers.."
