Hitmaker, the creators of Crazy Taxi, are currently working on an exclusive XBox version of their classic drive-em-up which is scheduled for release sometime in the summer of 2002. It will be called "Crazy Taxi Next".
Being a huge fan of the original Crazy Taxi and now the stunning sequel, I have (perhaps foolishly) decided to draw up a wish list of what I think should be included in the new update.
As yet, very little information has been released by Hitmaker concerning Crazy Taxi Next, so what is written below is nothing else but pure speculation on my part, consisting of my own ideas and wishes.
The 3rd instalment of every game should always evolve both gameplay-wise and graphically, and considering the awesome power of the XBox, my expectations for Crazy Taxi Next are very high.

-My *Crazy Taxi Next* Wish List:

(1) MULTI-PLAYER MODE
The inclusion of a multi-player mode is probably the most obvious idea. 2 to 4 players positioned in front of a TV screen alternately picking up customers and dropping them at their destinations would be great fun. Seeing the Dreamcast has four controller ports, just why Hitmaker did not utilize this option in the first two games is a mystery. Hopefully they will make up for their oversight in Crazy Taxi Next.

(2) RIVAL CABBIES (Online Play)
Considering the XBox's online capabilities, this would be another obvious move. I envisage up to 16 online players all operating in the city at the same time. The competition for customers between rival human drivers would really spice things up transforming the city into a battlezone. A time limit would be set within which each player would have to earn as much money as possible. Obviously the player with the highest Dollar count at the end of the alotted time would be the winner. One can only imagine the kind of dirty tricks and tactics that would come into play.

(3) THE CITIES
I would choose Las Vegas as the setting for Crazy Taxi Next. For me it's the obvious choice. Las Vegas is a world famous city on par with San Francisco and New York. It is renowned for attracting wannabe hot shots and the winning and losing of big bucks. It fits perfectly with the Crazy Taxi vibe, and thus makes it an ideal place to make some crazy money.

(4) NIGHT & DAY MODE
The inclusion of a Night Mode is another reason why Las Vegas would be the best and most effective setting. Just imagine driving the cab through the city streets after dark surrounded by the dazzling multi-coloured neon signs of the casinos and other impressive buildings. The customers in Night Mode should also be different to those in Day Mode: they should be of a more seedy nature - from angry gamblers who have just lost small fortunes in the casinos, to rowdy groups of drunken youths, to pimps and other shadey characters.

(5) WEATHER FX
In Crazy Taxi 1 & 2 the sun is always shining, it is forever a beautiful day. Crazy Taxi Next should feature different weather conditions - perhaps even changeable weather. A sudden flash storm for instance could affect the handling of the cab, or maybe put certain rain-soaked customers in a bad mood, the result of this being that they tip less generously.

-Moving on to more subtle aspects:

(6) RANDOM BONANZA CUSTOMER
Whether the game is set in Las Vegas or not, here is an idea that would give you an opportunity to make a huge cash bonus. Every time a new game is started, a single "Bonanza Customer" will be randomly situated somewhere in the city. This unique customer would be identified by a distinctive PINK Dollar icon and circular outline - as opposed to the standard red, orange, yellow, green and blue icons. When located, this Bonanza Customer will say something to the effect of: "Hey, I've just won the lottery, take me to the casino!" The idea behind this special (once per game) customer is that if he is discovered and taken to his destination within the time limit, he will bestow on you huge tips, perhaps ten times bigger than normal, allowing you to make a massive profit. But the key to this wealthy Bonanza Customer is: will you be lucky enough to find him?

(7) ETHEREAL TOKENS
With every $5,000 earned you will be issued with an "Ethereal Token" which when triggered will make the cab take on a ghost-like appearance; this will allow you to pass through any vehicle for a 20 second time period. During play these tokens could be saved up in reserve and used at important times: for example when you are struggling to reach a destination, or when you are low on time.

(8) EMERGENCY CUSTOMERS
Scattered throughout the cities will be "Emergency Customers" who are recognized by a flashing Red Dollar icon. The idea behind these customers is that they need to get to a destination urgently: for instance a pregnant woman who is about to give birth and needs to get to the hospital. With these Emergency Customers the fare dynamic will change; they will not tip, but if you get them to their desired destination with a 'Speedy' rating, they will give you a large cash bonus for helping them out in their hour of need. If you fail to get a Speedy rating however, they will cuss your bad driving and give you nothing.

(9) EJECTOR SEAT
This would be a comical addition. If you are struggling to get a customer to their destination within the time limit, or you are just tired of listening to their incessant whinging and criticism of your driving, you can simply press a special ejector button and send them flying into orbit - James Bond style.

(10) CUSTOMIZE YOUR CAB
This option would allow you to personalize your cab. Choose the colour, exterior and interior design and markings, numerals and letters on the number plate, and possibly even tweak the cab's handling to your own personal driving style.

Here ends my wish list for Crazy Taxi Next. I hope some of the ideas expressed make it into the game. Farewell.
