What does happen to them? Some seem to fade into obscurity, and others flourish. Look at the actors in the original triolgy. Mark Hammill and Carrie Fisher ( Luke and Leia ) did nothing of note after Star Wars, while Harrison Ford went on to become one of the biggest actors ever. Frank Oz directs films, but none of any great stature. The guy who played Lando played Apollo Creed - I think - in the Rocky movies, then nothing else.

But the big casulty was Alec Guiness, with his great Ben Obi-Wan Kenobi. He said, after Star Wars, that it ruined his career.

So what does this mean for the current crop of Star Wars actors? Ewan 'I don't do mainstream films' McGregor has since starred in Moulin Rouge, which looks like of the big films of 2001. So he's looking pretty peachy. Natalie Portman, who has been in films such as Mars Attacks! before SW, looks like she has a great career, but the same probably could have been said of Carrie Fisher. Ian McDiarmind. He played Palpatine in the original, and I haven't seen him in anything except TPM since. Jake Lloyd is a child star, and their future is touch and go. None of the other actors look like going anywhere. Liam Neeson said he was going to retire from films after TPM.

So what does this mean? Will any of the promising actors get anywhere? Not if Natalie Portman is forever seen as Queen Amidala, or McGregor as Kenobi. This is what Alec Guiness said ruined his career - people couldn't think of him as anything else.

Mark Hamill provides the voice for The Joker in the Batman animated cartoon series, and recieves raptorous acclaim from graphic novel fans for re-inventing that character.
And can soon be seen burying his Star Wars image in "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back", where he plays a character called C0ck-knocker, and has a light-bong duel.

Carrie Fisher, however, has had a long and succesful career as a script-writer and novelist. Often being approached to do re-writes and ghost-writer duties on a lot more Hollywood movies that you think.
She wrote Postcards From The Edge, a semi-autobiographical novel about the experiences of an actress past-her prime and addicted to drugs.

As well as Nora and 3 other movies I can't remember the names of.

Natalie Portman,

She had a career before Star Wars, Leon etc and has put her acting on hold to go to University, says "I don't really care for movies right now, doing the Star Wars because I'm contracted to, but other than that I want to get a proper career as well"

Let's face it, Mark Hamill was a retard with retarded hair who couldn't act at all.

Carrie Fisher had a small role in Austin Powers. She was the lead person in the group that Dr. Evil and Scott went to.

And let's please not forget that Natalie Portman was in the best film ever made - HEAT.

James Earl Jones did the voice for Darth Vader didn't he? He has had an extremely successful career.

In fact I watched the original Star Wars a few nights ago for the first time in ages and that sort of committed me to watching the other 2 movies (I don't have TPM as it was poor-I'll probably end up getting it on DVD though for some strange reason).

Of course, I forgot that Portman was in HEAT! Go Heat!
Ahem. I stand corrected in the face of goatboys research.

I do agree with Mark Hamill though, apart from The Joker voice, he's been coasting on the Skywalker thing ever since.

And yes, big dumb hair had Hamill.

Carrie Fisher was in the Burbs as well, which is a class film. She also appeared in Amazon Women on the Moon, which is a must see. Mark Hamill was in the horrifically bad Slipstream, 'nuff said about that. Frank Oz was in the Blues Brothers, An American Werewolf in London and Trading Places with bit parts, as well as having his hands full (literally) with his Muppet capers. He directed Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Dark Crystal and Little Shop of Horrors, hardly trash films and Bowfinger isn't that bad either.

I always felt that Alec Guinness was slightly harsh with that statement, he was only in war films with Richard Attenbourough before that anyway.

Carl Weathers played Apollo Creed, not Billy Dee Williams. The only other film I can think of him being in was Batman, he played Harvey Dent.

Mark Hammill also appeared in the Simpsons playing his miserable failure self. He goes to a star wars convention and ends up getting in a massive fight. His best role yet!

Natalie Portman was also in "Mars Attacks!", playing Jack Nicholson's daughter.
