"The "¬" symbol"

A friend has just asked what the "¬" symbol is called and what it means. Its next the the number 1 on a keyboard. Any ideas?

its somethingto do with the US QWERTY key board

¬ ` ¦

¬ is shift
` is normal
¦ is ctrl+alt

It has nothing to do with that - it's down to localisation.

A US keyboard doesn't show the ¬ on any key, but it can be found by holding Alt-gr and presing the \ key, located beneath the backspace key.

They don't even have a GBP sign, not from what I can find anyway.

I think alt-gr is used for 3rd key functions.
Alt-gr and ` gives me ¦

Although, my keyboard says it should be a |
But my keyboard also says that shift \ should be a ¦, whereas it's actually a |.
That was complicated but in conclusion it appears they're switched around.

I've no idea what it's called, but it when dealing with logic, it means the negation of.

¬A means not A

I don't know if that's its only use.
