I dont really know how to put this so ill do my best-

Is it a bad idea to allow people to embed images onto their sites from yours. For example, if i were to start a myspace site and allow people to use backgrounds etc from my site would this be a costly matter? Would it use a lot of bandwidth?

Its only really considered bad when people start linking to your images without permission. If you're giving permission then theres no real problem with it. In fact many sites that allow you to use their banners encourage it as it enables them to track usage

As for how much bandwidth it'll take. You cant really answer as it'll depend on the size of the image being linking to and how many visitors the site using it gets.
