"What does it mean by "bumping" up a Thread in a Chat section?"

I've seen the term "bump" used in quite a few messages on games websites, I'm guessing it means moving the Thread back to the top with the latest post, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

you are 100% correct, it "bumps" the thread to the top to get it noticed

As in "Alien"? :D

it means saying anything to 'bump' the thread to the top of the forum list

eg-
you hit 'post' or 'reply' and type "Bump" the forum thinks someone has replied properly and so moves the topic back to the top.

if for example you start a topic and not many people are replying the topic falls further down the list of topics but if you "bump" it it will put it back near the top and make it more likely that people will reply
