NGC ALWAYS rate Nintendo Series stuff (Excluding Starfox Adventures, but they were just sour about Rare leaving) with scores that are ALWAYS 90+
That's the only reason it got that high, as, quite frankly, I've played it for a couple of hours, and I'm bored of it.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, I personally really like it, I think it depends what your after from the game, I have only attempted Tricks once and will never do again, however if you bought it for racing/time trials or the gates challenge I can't see how your disappointed.

It may be a little short but I look for quality and 1080 sure has it.
I would have preferred something a lot less SSX and more 1080 Snowboarding - instead Nintendo should have used the name: Twisted Edge Snowboarding 2.
1080 is the most "cool" Nintendo game ever made...

I'll admit that I, too, didn't find 1080: Avalanche as great as I was expecting it to be, at first. I was beginning to tire of it early on, just because "Easy" mode was so-damn... EASY!
But, like with all games, you do need to give this one more time. I played through the Hard mode, got to the last race, and, with that avalanche, realised just how great this game really is! :)
But, if, after that, you still don't like it, I suggest you go and play SSX, instead. :P
