Although no final decision has been made as to whether Prince Harry will be allowed to deploy to Iraq with his Squadron, I consider it quite honourable and commendable that he has such convictions to serve along side his fellow men. Bless 'em I say. Mama would be so proud.

It is reported that his presence may put other soldiers lives at risk, supposedly because he's exceptionally high profile. Looks like they've already notified the insurgents..

From what I can recall of history, King's strategised in high towers and Prince's fought along side their men in battle. My opinion is that he should be allowed to serve, especially since the supposed plan is to retract troops later in the year. Anyone else care to share?

His squad is listed to deploy? Then he goes. If not, he should resign his commission and admit that his stint in the forces was nothing more than publicity stunt.

He's part of the squad, a grunt. Do as they do or get the hell out. It's not even worth debating.

This post wasn't meant to debate.

However.. there are people in military service that never get to see a deployment to another country because of their specialization. Because of Prince Harry's position and the impending hazardous effect that it may conjure with the insurgents, I have to wonder if sending him out to Iraq without his camouflauge makeup on will be so wise. The mission may very easily turn into "Operation Save The Prince!"

I'm not aware of any specialisation Harry has, so he should be happy enough dressing up in camo. It's not like he's anyone of importance, just an overglammed celeb.

You don't sign up for a pay cheque and an easy ride. You're there to do your duty. It is not a soldiers place to question what that duty might be. 'Ours is not to reason why'. You're a part of the team, the team goes to Iraq, you go to Iraq.

To paraphrase a poignant quote from Jaws:

"You get into the cage, cage goes into the water... shark's in the water."

Go in, or get out.

Edit:

Really? You offered your opinion, and asked for others to offer theirs. If that is not an invitation to debate, I don;t know what is. Or were you simply expecting the forums to fall in line with your own view?

I don't buy this whole thing about him being a special target that every insurgent wants to kill.

It'll be very hard for them to find out exactly where he is and when and they're more interested in killing as many foreign troops they can, trying to find him won't be worth their while as they will have "better" (sorry couldn't think of another word) things to do with their time.

I think he can be quite an idiot at times but I have to admire him not wanting to take the easy way out like other members of the royal family have done in the past.

I'm not debating, dear sir..my quest is for a discussion on the matter. As a matter of fact, my view is very much alike your own. It appears you're very upset in your replies and that is what I can't figure.

It safe to believe that if any high profile individual is captured, they can be held as prized callateral. However, its my understanding that he's as close to the throne as Prince Andrew.

That's pretty cool, a royal family member who can represent our country by doing something worthwhile.
