(From a person who has pre-ordered a PS2)So what if the PS2 shifts 37.5 times more polygons than the Dreamcast, and so what if it kicks its butt in everything but price and controller ports. You can make a game like a living film, or have the most beautiful graphics that will put Star Wars to shame or make it runs as fast as light. What defines hits from misses is the GAMEPLAY. Take Driving Emotion Type - S. It looks and feels like nothing on Earth, but it plays like the wheels have been sawn off and replaced with cheese. Now let's take Street Fighter. It looks like something you pull out of your cat, but it is arguably one of the best 2D fighters of all time. My point? I agree with you on one point. Gameplay is important. However, think what you would be missing out on if there wasn't such a thing as 3D graphics. For example, The entire Ridge Racer Series would probably never have been created, and they've got bags of playability, and great graphics. There's alot of other great games that would also be missing if 3D graphics were not available. So bare that in mind the next time you play Tekken, Unreal Tournament, or whatever games you play, as I'm pretty sure that at least 1 of your favourites relies in 3D graphics.
