PlayStation 2 will succeed regarless of other machines, purely because of the software.

Think of Sega: you think of Sonic, and/or contrived and 'cutesy' arcade games.

Think of Nintendo: you think of Donkey Kong, Mario, and yet more cute kiddy games.

Think of PlayStation: Gran Turismo, Wipeout, Ridge Racer, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid. Classy games that MOST people want to play; backed by the sales figures to prove it.

Sure, you can get Code Veronica on DC - but you can't get any of the other classic RE series. And TR4 looks no better on DC, other than being slightly higher resolution - not a major improvement.

I always swore I'd never buy a games console, because "consoles are for kids". Until PlayStation came along, that is.

If you're talking Sega and Nintendo, I still stand by my original thought: they are for kids, because that's where most of the games are aimed at.

Until Sega and Nintendo undergo a major image change, and head away from the 'cute', they will always be second-best.

You are kidding right! PS2 software will be and you've said it yourself, nothing more than sequels!! where's the originality and innovation! eh?

Tomb Raider 5 (do you think this will be anything different to TR1,2,3 or 4)? course it won't..
Gran Turismo 2000 (it'll just be GT2 for PS1 but with better graphics!)
Metal Gear Solid (is coming out for X-Box so it's not exclusive to PS2)
Wipeout 4 (if they do it, will be exactly like Wipeout 1,2 and 3!)

Boring sequels with no new innovation WHATS THE POINT!!!!

and how can you say Dreamcast is just cutesy kids stuff!!!!
Soul Calibre
Dead or Alive 2
Shenmue
Metropolis Street Racer
Sega GT
all these I wouldn't term kids games...

As for Code Veronica you can get Res. Evil 2 for DC... so argument over... :o)

I agree with Dethmunk. For one thing, Sony did not make any of the games you listed, Babylonian (okay, except GT), and they only appeared on the PlayStation because it was the leading console.

If the Saturn (dare I mention the name) had succedded rather than the PlayStation, you would have found the Saturn with Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil and the other great games you mentioned. Sony had no hand in this!!! Sony have made a couple of good games, like Gran Turismo and Ape Escape, but that's it. And Ape Escape is a lot more "cutesy" than Sonic or Mario.

TR4 looked bad on the DC because Eidos couldn't be bothered to create new models, which is their own fault. I've heard that another TR game is coming out on the DC, and next time Eidos will not have to port it, they can start it from scratch.

Sega have great third party support now (almost equalling the PS2, but Electronic Arts won't jump onto the bandwagon until we have 4 million owners), even from great developers like Namco, who only supported the PlayStation so wholeheartedly in the first place because they had a three year contract (just like Eidos with the TR series). And Sega have produced loads of classics since the DC's release already, which is a lot more than can be said for Sony, who are more interested in asking famous developers to create sequels with enhanced graphics.

Even if the PS2 does exceedingly well here, the DC is where the best games are going to be, because there are already enough owners to keep third-party developers interested, and Sega make the best games.
