Sony stole:
the shoulder buttons (created by nintendo on the SNES)
The 3D stick (created jointly by Nintendo and Sega for Saturn/N64)
The `dual shock` (Rumble pak created by Nintendo)
cds in video gaming (Sega and the mega cd)
d-pad (Invented by Nintendo for game and watch)
Playstation(nintendo was joint with Sony at the time - Sony said, you make the console and we will supply the cd drives. Orginally it was a SNES cd drive then Sony requested they make a stand alone. So Nintendo did it all, remembering the cd drives. Sony split and took the PS design for themselves, making loads a dosh)

So, what has Sony made by themselves???..................
ummm......
Nothing
So what are the chances that they will make something new and decent???
Not much

Unless another company do it first..

Hey, Sony are using these things because they were successful. And Sony may have created these things but they are young in the Gaming market.

Of course Sega haven't 'stole' any of these ideas for the Dreamcast have they? Rumble pak for the Dreamcast is nothing like that for the N64 is it? It doesn't even plug into the back of the controller... Hang on...

Yeah, that was a major success. And surely Nintendo are 'stealing' the idea of using a DVD drive for the Dolphin?

Alright, I'm pretty young and haven't been into video games (or alive) for long enought to take in every console since Game and Watch, but hasn't virtually every console after this had a D-Pad on it's standard controller? Even bloody PC keyboards have almost a D-Pad in the form of the cursor buttons. Suggesting that because Nintendo was the first to implement a D-Pad on a video game machine means the 'Evil Sony' are at fault for reusing a good idea on their controllers. It's like saying that anything to do with Linux should be exterminated beacause Apple and Microsoft have made PC operating systems before Linux has become available (alright, pretty crap analogy so don't go on about it, you know what I mean...)

But surely Nintendo made a rather large mistake by ditching Sony. I mean from a business point of view Sony's someone you really want to stay friend with - they're huge, worldwide, they have their fingers in most different flavours of metaphorical pie in the consumer electronics industry and as a result have massive influence worldwide. Could you imagine how much better off Nintendo would have been if they'd been part of the PlayStation when it went on sale. Nintendo are a great software company and with their close friends like Rare, the games on the PlayStation would have been amazing, and on top of the PlaySataions massive user base from their advertising to casual gamers, Nintendo's games would have increased this even further.

I wouldn't agree that Nintendo did everything on the PlayStation and Sony grabbed it at the last and left Nintendo with nothing, but I agree they must have had a large part in it, as it would explain why they were able to relase a 64bit machine not long after the 32bit generation, from their previous big release in the 16bit era.

In what context are you talking here? And does it matter whether Sony are the original founders of a certain technology if they can use it to their advantage and use their marketing mite, they will make a lot of money from it, though admittedly not necessarily in the best interests of us, the games player.

And as for something new which they haven't stolen, how about the Emotion Engine chip? There are suggestions that the EE2 or 3 will be used in PCs as an Intel-beater. It has recently come to light that Sony are doing with the technology they have created, what others should have done with the above ideas you have complained Sony 'stole' - licensing them. Sony plan to license the chips etc used in the graphics processing in the PS2, presumably to video card makers for the PC and the like. If Nintendo had patented the D-Pad, they'd either have loads of money from that, and would have so much they'd brag about it and you wouldn't have that to moan about, or other controllers would have a new type of control system, which would have given the player a better choice.
