Yes, we have the clash of the titans once again.

FIFA look to have the upper hand on paper with the online play feature that PES4 missed out to get it out on time, but still made it Xbox Live compatible.

If PES4 had online play it would wipe the floor with FIFA, but, without it, it kind of stoops to FIFA's level while FIFA progresses and overtakes PES4.

But, as we all know, we mainly decide on a game by its gameplay. You can add all the fancy features, little tweaks, but if the gameplay isnt up to scratch, then it was just a waste of time.

Which one do you think has the upper hand over t'other?

Does online play really effect how good a game is?

Yea and i can just imagine if PES4 was online on the PS2 - laggy, glitchy and full of frickin foreigners not being able to read 2 little letters of the alphabet that are U and K.

Gameplay is most important for me and in that regards it kicks Fifa all around the pitch Keano style hence why i would get it if i hadn't spent 10 odd hours editing all the Japanese on Winning Eleven 8.

I mean the new feature of Fifa 2005? 'First touch control' Hmmmm hasn't Evo been doing that for ages? Hell SWOS did that on the Amiga, since when is this meant to be a new feature to football games?

I disagree with 159's tagline.

On the subject, PES4 is going to cain FIFA over and over again.

And again.

Posted this in the sport forum topic with a few changes:

I've been lucky enough to play them both so I'll give my views on them.

Pro Evo 4 is a good improvement over the last one, English and Scottish teams don't have proper strips and team names (and scottish player names aren't proper player names) but these can be changed quite easily, where this game rules is the gameplay, plays the way a footy game should. Can play it with one touch passes, through balls and clever moves or you can play with skillful runs, tricks and long balls from defence. Makes every game different.
Master league has been improved and there is quite a few things to unlock through the PES shop.
Most players look like the real life players they are based on. Commentary is alright, gets a bit repetitive though.

Definately one of the best games I've played this year.

The Xbox version will also be online which is a major bonus for xbox gamers.

FIFA

I wasn't really expecting much from this, the previous game looked good and had all the official stuff in it but when it came to playing a game it just didn't feel smooth and fun to play in the way that pro evo did.

Anyway here's what I thought about the new fifa.
Everyting is all official so all the proper strips, players, names etc is all there. Everything is all up to date too, Rooney at Utd etc. Commentary is pretty good too.

On the pitch it looks good, graphics wise its put together well and everyone looks like the real players and real strips etc make it look good.

Play is ok, compared to pro evo 4 is a it pants though, still dosn't feel smooth although its an improvement over the last one, just dosn't feel like a proper game of footy when you comapre it to pro evo 4. Ball just seems to move in an unrealistic way.

FIFA will appeal to some, the real names, strips and one button to shoot. But for those who want a proper football game that takes a bit longer to get used too but once you do you'll master it and be able to play truely great football then pro evo wins it out the park.

Now if pro evo had all the official licences, proper strips, updated squads and totally realistic players then it would be the ultimate game. Guess a patched version will be around soon enough with real strips etc.

Online play isn't really an important feature on the PS2 versions, as laker said it would be laggy, full of cheats and poor when compared to the offline mode. It may work well on the XBox versions though, interesting to see just how well both perform on that.
